Reaping the benefits of Thistle Flowers!

NW Qtr, AR(Zone 6a)

One mustn't feel that the thistle needs to be in the flower beds, or, within any proximity - to be able to reap what many consider .. the joy of viewing the many visitors that are drawn to the thistle flowers!

There's a whole slew of different butterflies, hummingbird moths, hummingbirds, and bunches of bees .. along with quite a variety of birds that feed on the spent flowers/seed.

If you have ample acreage .. one can 'afford' to have ('tolerate & manage') a good crop of thistle.

Even a wee plot of ground, over a bit .. that you can keep an eye on, and/or 'control' .. could be the ideal lil spot.

Here's .. a mere few .. of the frequent visitors to the beautiful thistle flowers.

good shots Maggi. Yes the hummers love it too. I have pics from a nice plot of it out on the Islands and it was just about the only food source they had

Finally, some one that apprecates thistle as I do. If I am going to garden to attract these beauties then I should be willing to control what I grow. Thanks John

Magpye-- well, you've made me a fan of the thistle! I have always admired them from afar, but your photos have made me fall in love with them! And their visitors, too, of course.

Now I have to find a nice sunny place for them in my wild garden!
