Thanks Donna, it's amazing y'all know what these are, look at all the different markings of these on this site http://bugguide.net/node/view/4757/bgimage?from=0

Guess I was lucky to see it, adults never eat? Last only 24 hours??

really sad isn't???

Beautiful! What a treat to get to see something with such a short life.

Please don't tell me it's the same for a Luna, I just couldn't take it--but would at least understand why I don't see more:(

I think most of the large moths life span is about a week or so. :( I've still waiting to see a Luna.

The Luna does not have functional mouthparts either. There's several of the large Silkmoths that do not.

While both are somewhat uncommon in my area, I see several of each every year, with the Imperial being a touch more numerous. I've only seen 2 Lunas this season and about 6 or 7 Imperials.

Lovely example of the Imperial Moth...nice size and the markings are really great.

Melody, you weren't supposed to tell me that about the Luna :(

I usually see at least 2 Luna's a year, but this is the first Imperial.

WOW... Nice find!!
