Hi Everyone, As usual, I am always thinking of what to plant next, though I don't have much space left! But... I can squeeze in some daffodils in the garden as their foliage doesn't take much room. I'll let the annuals and perennials cover up the aging foliage. Question: Does anyone have any recommendations for daff varieties that are well-suited for DFW (Southlake, zone 8A), and last from year-to-year, despite our hot summers? BTW, my garden is irrigated, so the Daff's don't have to last through drought. Thank you in advance! Yours in Gardening, tosaho. AKA TexasGardenGal
Daff's for DFW
The earliest blooming ones are usually best because the bulbs (through the foliage) have time to store energy and go dormant before the heat hits. While dormant in the summer and early fall, they don't need supplemental water.
These are some that are known to return in North Texas:
Narcissus jonquilla
Narcissus x odorus (campernelle jonquil)
Narcissus x intermedius (Texas star jonquil)
Narcissus pseudonarcissus (Lent lily)
Narcissus tazetta italicus
Narcissus tazetta 'Grand Primo'
Narcissus tazetta 'Avalanche'
Narcissus 'Cheerfulness'
Narcissus 'Sweetness'
Narcissus 'Golden Sceptre'
N. bulbocodium, Hoop Petticoats

Van Engelen Bulbs, Brent & Becky's Bulbs, Old House Gardens, and the new Southern Bulb Company (http://www.southernbulbs.com/servlet/StoreFront) all carry a good selection online.
Thank you so much Sweezel, for the list and links!
