Geeze, I'm in trouble and there isn't much i can do. I am right in line AGAIN for another hurricane only this time I am not there and although to some that might seem like a good thing, I have so much to lose in the garden with seedlings and new beautiful double pinks.. I am going to have my sister go over to my house to gather up what she can. I'll have her move stuff into the house. Some plants however have gotten so large that they are just going to have to brave the storm. Those I will have her tip the pots over at a angle so that they can have less wind resistance.
I did a smart thing this year and brought cuttings of some of my special brugs like Daydreams, MM, Mem, D. Peach. and Painted Lady. At least i have backups of those. I still have Adeline, Pink Smitty, Dorethea and numerous Rubiline crosses that i must worry about. If this storm is as bad as Wilma I'm in for a horrifc return home.
For those of you who don't know me I live, and have my garden in Fort Lauderdale. I am away for the summer in NY watching Ernesto intently as he bears down on my house and garden.
Hurricane Ernesto...I'm in real trouble.....
Iam soory i know how you feel iam in central florida but 2 years ago i was liveing in southwest fl i lost every thing i had . if i get hit this year iam moveing out of florida for good. ill move to TN or Va . lol iam geting to old to keep starting over. but these bad stroms that we are geting has a lot to do with globel warming the water temps are in the 90s they use to stay in the mid 80s but no more. Regards Paul
Gary will be praying that it downgrades and everyone will be safe.

Hopefully, it will keep going east and miss Florida entirely!!
Sending prayers and positive thoughts to you.
Judy
Shows it moving off more to the east. Hope you just get some rain.
Be glad you are up north Gary, plants can be replaced, you can't.
I hope it avoids you, Gary. What a worry! I do not know how you guys can take so much worry all hurricane season. I will be thinking of you!
Gary I'll catch your babies when they blow thru. Now you gotta promise to catch yours and mine when they blow to NY. ... hee!
Gary, how frustrating for you to have to just watch the weather and not be able to do anything about what happens to your babies....I will keep good thoughts for the storm to peter out before it gets to your house....if it doesnt we all can try and help replace things....Judy
Gary, I am so sorry that this is happening to you and you can not even take care of the plants. Your seeds are growing well here so somethings are safe.
I pray for you and your plants, Joan
Gary, I feel for you being away from your home and not there to prepare for what is to come.
Let's just think positive thoughts that this storm will go on out to see and not bother anyone. I am sorry that you all have this major worry.
God Bless
Sure hope it doesn't do much damage. All ya'll in Florida will be in my thoughts.
V,and all of you in Florida please be safe!! Plants can be replaced but dear friends cannot! The last I heard it could be coming over us here in NC, but by then it will be a tropical deprestion. Gary, I know it is hard to watch it coming from somewhere else and can't do anything about it.
It looks like Ernesto has been downgraded to a Tropical Storm. That's a bit of good news! Now if it would move just a bit further east....
Gary we are watching and waiting with you. Please let us know when it is all over. Joan
Well the worst has passed and it wasn't too bad. Lots of rain and some heavy winds but not bad. I expect that my sister will go over there today to pick up the plants and get things in order. I'll be home in two weeks. Even if there is another storm threat this season as long as I am there to handle things it won't be so stressfull. I learned a lot from my experiance with hurricane Wilma.
After experiancing 2 weeks without power I now have a generator and gas cans to power it up.
Let's just keep our fingers crossed that this season will pass without any more scares.
Thank You everyone for yur concern and your prayers....it was greatly appreciated
Im so happy your home and plants are ok and that it didnt get any worse!! Im crossing them for you and me that there are no more nasty storms comming this season!!

One thing you can do is buy small camping tents , put your pots in it . a little more protection from wind rain .
Another if you have a craigs list there watch for people giving away camper shells for free . Put bricks or milk jugs full of water on top of camper shell for extra weight .
