pressure cookers

Do you use a pressure cooker?
it is a big thing here, but I am scared of using one, I wasnt rasised with one, I think my mother was scared of them too, thats why im scared of trying it. But my SIL uses one and swears by it.
I would like some ideas on features to look for, what to stay away from, etc.,
I am going to be in the states and wouldnt mind picking one up. I would rather get a small one.
