When is the September Bingo starting?
My mornings just aren't the same with out Bingo! LOL
Dawna
Next Bingo?
Hmmm.... well.. ahhh....
I was just trying to figure this out! I've been talking about offering for October, or maybe September if somebody else wasn't already set to go then...
But my schedule just got crazy-busy. We were able to schedule an IVF frozen embryo transfer for Sept. 5! My BIL's family was supposed to visit that week, so we had to reschedule, and now they're planning to arrive this Wednesday and stay through the weekend. My brother's family is also coming down this weekend, so we're going to have a fun, festive houseful (5 kids, ages 1 - 7, who have never met but are so excited about gettign together). Lots to do in the next couple of days, LOL, plus I'm trying to get a bunch of planting-out done since I'll be on "light duty" (no digging) after the transfer.
If I can get a list organized this week, I could start a game on September 6... However, I don't think there will be enough time for me to get the winner's box out before we leave for 2-3 weeks visiting family in NC.... so the prizes still wouldn't go out until the third week in October. That delay seems a little anti-climatic to me.
Maybe we should just gamble on having a decent interconnect connection down in NC and having me host an October game....
So another volunteer for September would be welcome. :-)
Thoughts/suggestions?
Hi Critter....
I would offer but with my plant sale and then I am starting an online course for Paintshop Pro so I am going to be busy for a bit.
I am sure you will figure something out....you always do a great job!
Joanne
Critter~ Your IVF sounds pretty exciting...we'll all be keeping our fingers crossed for you!!!
I'm willing to hold the cards for September...unless someone else is counting on doing it (for some reason~lol).
Jacki
I'm just thinking that I've got a lot on my plate the next few weeks, so sticking with my original plan of hosting in October might work better. Amy (RainGazer) has already offered to hold cards for me when I host. I don't think we had anybody else who wanted to host in October, anyway, if I'm remembering right... (and if I'm wrong, please correct me!)
So.... the door is wide open for whomever might want to host a game in September!
In fact, if you're interested in hosting any time in the next few months, please post on this thread so we've got an idea of who might be doing what when.
Sept after the 7th is relatively calm for me. I expect to be in town (home) for most of the rest of the month..... so while work might get crazy, I can probably manage part of a bingo - is there a way to split it up? Or at least, I haven't played one yet, and don't exactly get how it's organized....
Keyring, thanks for considering being our September host!
Organization works like this... (please chime in if I leave anything out!)
The person hosting posts a list of 35 choices, and everybody picks 15 from the list to form their "card." Although some games may offer all 15 of the winning picks as a prize, the prize can be any AV or Gessie related item/s that you have to offer.
The host selects a volunteer to hold cards, and all cards must be Dmailed to that person by a selected date. It's a good idea to have the card deadline be a day or two earlier than the start date for the game, as that gives a chance for the card holder to confirm receipt of the cards and for everyone to double-check their cards for accuracy.
The host calls one or more names from their list of choices each day by posting them on a thread for the Bingo game. The winner is the first person to post "Bingo!" on the thread when all 15 of their picks are called. The card holder verifies the winning card and Dmails it to the host. The winner pays postage on the prize box.
To answer Keyring's question about splitting it up, the organizational work is somewhat split between the host and the card holder, but the way its been done so far is by having a single person host the game -- eg, come up with the list, post the calls, and send off the prize box.
I'll hold the cards for you, Ki, if you want :)
hahaha ... it's been something 30 years since I played bingo, lol.
So maybe I can manage this, if Jacki or someone is willing to hold the cards. The only thing is, I've sent out a fair number of boxes recently so a lot of folks may already have what I've got... I shall have to go home and see what I can dish up....
ok, couple more things.
I think I can do this - but probably not as generously as I would like. I have been good this year and am not overflowing in excess plants.....
but...
1. I do not want to ship plants to Canada or other countries, so if the winners are from outside the I would substitute with other things
2. I am not a morning person, so I don't think I can call numbers early in the morning.
3. yes, the prizes will be mostly non-AV gessies, plus maybe an odd non-gessie.... and the packages would be my selection (and I promise to not include what you already have)
4. timing-wise, it's still a little tight. If I get a list together asap (but I am getting ready for another trip, so it might not be til Aug 31), give everyone a week to submit their cards, and then begin, we'll just make it before the end of Sept....
So if there are no other volunteers for September, please holler to say if you think this is feasible, or maybe we should just wait until Crittero's round in Oct.
ok, I think I scared everyone off..... ......
LOL nah Key, I'm still lurking...........:-)..........Lauri
I think your conditions are fine, Key. If you don't mind hosting the next Bingo, I'm sure we'd all love to play!

Are leaves considered other things? in shipping to Canada?
well, it's very simple. If I can put "african violet leaves" on the customs form and the box will get through customs, I will gladly send leaves to Canada. Basically, I don't want to ship a box if it's not going to get there, and I'm not lying to Customs.... I think it used to be ok, but I don't know if the laws have changed. I know that some Canadian mail regulations have been changed since 9/11......
I'm with you on that... I'm willing to try to send leaves, but not willing to risk a box of plants. I did successfully send some mint to Canada in a BE last year, no custom form, just labeled it "bare root mint plants" on the outside.
I'll have to put some thought into an alternative October prize for players in Canada... LMK if you find anything out about shipping leaves there...
Key sounds great ! Super wonderful and nice of you ! Thank you !
Sounds wonderful, Key! I look forward to playing!
Just to confirm, I'll be holding the cards for you in October, Jill. :o)
I'll be holding for Keyring this month! Cool!!
Jacki
Yahooo!
Big thanks to Ki for stepping up when I had to juggle back to my original plan. I just didn't want to run out of time before I left and make somebody wait until October to get their box!
(((Keyring)))
hmmm I thought customs forms were required for Canada. (I just read that they require full sender's names (no initials, no Aunt Jane etc) as well. So many rules.) I looked into their govt website and got as far as (1) no import permit required for these things (2) phyto is required. Is phyto required for all plant things or only restricted plants?
Anyway, I'll get things together and start a new thread - probably tomorrow.
I have had bare root plants sent to me from Calif. through the mail. Was marked as bare roots and I got it no problem. No customs docs either. So I think it really depends on who is working at Customs that day. ;)
I think thar is very true, Dawna. But I hate to tempt fate. I have been very lucky in the past as well, but have decided it's far better and less stressful to abide by the laws, however ridiculous they may be. JMHO.
