Thirsty afternoon visitor

San Antonio, TX(Zone 9a)

This beauty was looking for a sip in the afternoon heat today and let me get a couple of nice shots before drifting off to the back pasture.

A little shy, but a lot more thirsty :)

Yes, really pretty. They don't sit still long enough for me to get a decent shot. Congrats to you!

I had one of these that was landing on my little bonsai citrus trees, and as I watched, she began to lay eggs. One here, and one there, until there were many little orange dots on the leaves of my kumquat, calamondin orange, and lemon. How long does it take the eggs to hatch? I'm assuming that it will eat the citrus leaves (which is fine, I want the butterflies, and it won't hurt the citrus to lose leaves). I was so excited to see it laying.

Thanks ya'll . . . you're right. It's not easy to get photos of these little jewels. They don't stay put long and are pretty skittish when it comes to approaching them very close.

That's pretty neat happytail . . . I haven't had a chance to see that yet. I have a couple of small lemon trees here, so I'll have to keep an eye out for eggs. I don't know how long they take to hatch, but I'm sure someone around here can tell us :)
