Both the Brugs I posted about in http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/613664/ are blooming.
Here's one of them. I bought it unnamed.
No-name survivor blooms
Your first one looks like a Frosty type to me and I bet you love it. They seem to bloom very well.
I would say your variegated one is Maya but it looks like an odd leaf texture to me so I am not sure. I love your sport and though it probably is too variegated to live if separated from the main plant, it will probably grow and flower for you if left attached. They look so cool when they do!
You did so great having these winter over outside in your zone and grow so big. You must have the brug thumb!
Kell~
If love has any power to it, that's what did it. I love flowers and my Brugs got a special helping after they showed up in the pots this spring.
I got them late summer one year, large plants for $8 each. I took them home and potted them up and they both grew bloomed lots before cold came.
The rosy green-leafed on is very fragrant and the variegated on, fragrant but not heavily so.
I took cutting from each one year, but the variegated one never took, though the "Frosty" (?) did. I didn't try any this year.
I knew the reverse-variegated one wouldn't do well off the plant--just too little chlorophyll in them and all that white would just fry in strong light and look awful. I'm leaving them on now and maybe next year they'll bloom.
I'll get some pix of the 'Maya?' to post and try to confirm ID.
Thanks.
Robert.
I bet love has a lot to do with it! LOL. I now have Tina Turner singing in my head. LOL
You will never know for sure if yours is a Frosty. There are so many Frosty types out there. But the variegated should be easier to figure out. Though I am not even sure if I have Maya or Peaches and Cream myself. LOL. It was tagged Peaches and Cream but I was told it was Maya on this forum because of its robust growth habit. Supposedly it is all in how the blooms hang! LOL. If your flower is an apricot shade, I think those are the only 2 variegates with such a color.
Is yours the color of mine?
OOOOOOO I love that lil sport on your Maya.. or whatever it is! I have a white sport growing from my Hydrangea and I LOVE it.. I've always loved those..
Good for you!
ZZ~ It *is* unusual isn't it? I'm leaving it on there and I think it could be quite a looker when (if) it gets large next year.
Kell~ I'm going to wait til mine blooms again to say they match. I just don't have a clear picture in mind of mine.
Robert.
I believe your variegated is Maya like Kell said...my leaves look just like that especially the taller one and they are Mayas...very tough ones and the best varietaged for me...I cant grow the P and C very well and the snowbanks is just sitting there dropping leaves...will be hunting down Jamie soon before the snow flies...Judy
Oh My Gawsh..... I love that lil Ghost.. You are so blessed! LOL No.. Really, I just go crazy over something like that! Congratulations! It is looking so good. I'm happy for you.
Thanks for the responses, folks.
I just got back inside after checking on my what-we-think-is-Maya until we compare mature colors or something :-)
and let me tell you (do I really need to?) the fragrance is intoxicating. It reminded me of a scented candle I've smelled many times before, but I don't know which scent it is-- I was instantly aware of the sort of waxy odor--like if someone held a scented candle under your nose, even with closed eyes, you'd know it was a candle--that sort of smell.
Oh, that Maya (?) bewitched me so! I had to keep sniffing and taking in that delightful fragrance, trying each time to name it, figure out what it reminded me of, but I just couldn't. I kept getting lost in it.
About four blooms open now, while the "Frosty Pink" (?) is all budded up for a good show, just a few more days yet before it begins.
Some pix of Maya in the moonlight, with flash.
OK. Not that I idn't trust your judgement, Kell (you know it all!) but I wasn't sure the colors matched on the blooms. They do.
In the pix I made, they look more gold and in person it's more orangey, but the colors in our pix match. And the foliage looks the same.
Thanks Kell and Judy and glad that others appreciated them too.
Just a last note: I took some pix yesterday at dusk of the largest buds. They were white with NO hint of rose. Then this morning, they had all done rose! I didn't know it happened like that. NEAT!
Pic of 3 day old bloom. It's been quite cool lately so they're lasting quite well.
