This plant was labelled "tropical foliage". I used to know the name but I'm drawing a blank. I'm sure this will be easy for some of our experts.
Variegated something
Its in the calathea family I believe they have it under stromanthia now? I have the name around here they were last arguing which group to put it in I will get it for you if I can remember.
That's it: Stromanthe sanguinea 'Tricolor' http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/59470/index.html
Thanks, Brian!
I have that plant in pots. It's in shade and last year I didn't even bring it inside for the winter. Of course we hardly had a winter. To be on the safe side I think I will bring it in this year.
Jeri
yes, it is stromanthe sanguinea tricolor. Mine is planted inground, am sun, afternoon shade. I haven't treated it very well, but it has survived the abuse. Used to be big like yours. now it's smaller
great plant
That is a beauty, I love the variegated leaves too. If it does good in shade I need to find me one.
Oh this is my favorite of all variegated plants but 'Ive had such a hard time with them in the ground here in the winter which is very dry . Any tropical sun at all filtering through the palms seems to scorch them and snails love them too. I've had many over the years. At the moment Im working on a rescue from the garden shop ( a freebe) that I cut back and has new leaves coming up. Not nearly as handsom as yours. But I live in hope.
