Fleas, fleas and more fleas

Help, my poor pup is being eaten alive. He was on Frontline Plus every 3 weeks and it just stopped working. We are presently giving him a Capstar each day until we can start him on Advantage later this week. Since there are planty of ticks (which Advantage doesn't cover) around here the vet tech suggested we also use a tick collar but those things scare me.

Any other ideas if the Advantage doesn't cut it?
