Chinchcrinchce/Ornithogalum thyrsoides

Ijamsville, MD(Zone 6b)

Jumping in here as a bulb newbie. I love this flower and always buy the cut version @ the flower shop once a year. Next year I want to cut them from my front yard! Okay, I live in zone 6 and these are hardy to zone 7. Should I wait until the spring to plant? Does anyone grow these? http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/64091/index.html - PlantFiles link

This is one of the only places I could find the bulbs online http://www.easytogrowbulbs.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=874

Thanks!

I think the ornitholgalum I have is different but I pot it in the spring and take them in after the first frost in the fall. According to the website, they say to plant in the spring.

Hi, bluekat--

I have not grown your Ornitholgalum but I did plant Ornitholgalum 'Magnum' last fall and they were attractive in late spring with my white edged hostas. I hope they come back for me again--

I have purchased a number of Amaryllis bulbs from 'Easy to Grow Bulbs' and they are a very nice company to work with (IMHO). Jon, who is in charge of customer service, can probably give you some pretty good advice on your O. cultivar. And when you find out, please let us know if we can try it/grow it in Zone 6. It's a very pretty flower!

Let us know how your bulb planting project progresses! Happy gardening. t.

T - They survived last winter so there is hope! Do you mulch? Now that I see the bigger one I want both!

Looks like I will be planting mine in the spring. I will give Jon a call and see what he says about zones. I will probably buy the rest of my bulbs from Brent and Becky's since they are 'local' only a few hours from me.

I mulch a little bit. But don't really know if it makes a difference during the winter... I'm sort of new at gardening in Ohio Zone 6.
