Famers' markets in the SW Houston metro area

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

My friend Becky took me to the FM in The Heights recently and we had so much fun. But that one is too far for me to visit regularly. I have just learned from the Ft Bend Co. extension office that Katy has a FM at the Mason/Fry road intersection, near the YMCA day camp. open saturdays 8-12

And opening Sep 21, the Needville FM on Hwy 36, opening every Thursday from 4-7. Near Vintage Rosery and Countryside Water Gardens

I thought the only Farmer's market in Houston was up by the airport somewhere! Awesome! Hmmm.. What am I doing tomorrow morning?

Thanks, Nery!!

Vossner, do you know an address for the Katy FM? I'm not familiar with Katy and don't know where the YMCA is, but I'd like to vist that market. I recently went to a market in Hempstead, but like you, that ones a little far for me to travel. I know the one on Airport (?) burned a year of so ago. I don't know if it reopened or not. The one in Hempstead was good, a little pricey, but since I found fresh peas that I couldn't find anywhere else, worth it. If you or someone else can give me directions or address for the one in Katy, I'd much appreciate it.

C, here's some info. I haven't been to the Katy one yet, but I will report here when I do.

On the one in Hempstead, are you talking about DiOrio farms (or something like that?) If so, their tomatoes, watermelons are great. but some of their other stuff I would swear they bought from the supermarket, lol. and pricey too.

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

Yeah, it was DiOrio. The tomatos, watermelon and okra were wonderful. The peas had already been shelled and frozen, no fresh available, but I bought several packages. All of it was a bit pricey. The peas were $6.00 for a quart ziploc! I need to start farming and forget about designing refineries!

Mason and Fry run parallel to each other--

I was in the area so decided to swing by there in this rainy Saturday morning. It is nice, small, in operation only 14 weeks. They had honey, homemade dog biscuits, grass fed beef, goat, lamb, chese, some exotic veggies, eggs. Tomato and fresh flowers guys were not there. I will definitely visit again and recommend it to my fellow west houston DGers. Open every Sat, rain or shine, 8-12

Debbie, if you go for enough S of I-10, they do cross each other in Cinco Ranch area. I lived between them for about 13 yrs, N of I-10 & was sure surprised when I went S, almost to 1093.

There is another Farmer's Market in Houston area, I haven't been but stumble on the info- it's a link on Buchanan's Native Plants web. Sorry I don't have the email anymore.
