I heard of someone in Texas who grew a Morning Glory Tree. Do anyone of you have one or have heard of this? I'd like to try and grow one in Florida.
Morning Glory Tree
Do you mean the Bush Morning Glory, Morning Glory Tree, Badoh Negro, Borrachero, Matacabra
(Ipomoea carnea) as shown here?

I have seeds for the lavenderish pink and the white blooming ones.
Yes, the lavenderish pink type.
I will collect some seeds for you when they are ripe. Plant them next spring. They grow very quickly.
Thanks so much..... Let me know how much.
You are quite welcome. Send me Dmail with your address. No charge ... just glad to be able to share this plant with you. It does become very large.
hello htop if there is any way I would like some of those seeds of the Morning Glory Tree or maybe I could look around here and find some I have never see any thing like this! I'll send u a dmail make sure u hear from me!
Thank You Jesse
Can I beg a couple, please, please, please?
Are you going to be able to make the CSRU?
htop u around ?
I can collect seed or send cuttings - they are super easy to root from cuttings- when I have taken cuttings this time of year I put them in a pot rather than in the ground just in case we get a cold snap, but they are root hardy here anyway.
Oh, April, may I have a cutting? Those are pretty!
Oh Fly, sorry, I meant I'd send one to anybody and everybody but you! LOL, of course you may have a cutting! Also was wondering if you wanted any rain lilies- didn't recall if you had any and they do well in shade/part shade to full sun.
I don't have any rain lillies but would LOVE some...you know I'll pay postage!
Thanks!
How did I know you need them?
How did you know oh wise one?
April, I am glad you mentioned cuttings of the bush morning glory, I have some that I started this Spring from some seeds the Htop sent me, and I am afraid that it might no be cold hardy up here.
I don't think the plant is mature enough to bloom and i would hate to lose it, so I will be sure to takes cuttings before frost just in case. Here is what the the plant looks like, it hasn't branched out yet.
Frostweed, here is College Station (8b) they freeze to the ground but come back when it warms up in the spring. Mine were about 2" tall when I got them, and now they're 10' and about as wide!
How many years have you had them, and how cold does it nornally get around your place?
I would just love to have some cuttings or seed of the Morning Glory Tree I don't have much to trade at this time but willing to pay :) Has anyone a picture of one?
Frostweed yours may be too small to survive any really harsh weather but for sure next year won't be a problem. Cuttings are super easy- I don't even use rooting hormone, just cut off 6 inches or so, stick it in soil/pot and water as you would any plant. Generally they have some roots within a few days.
I have grown some in pots to try and control them because they tend to get big, as Aggiecorgi said 10 x 10! I wack mine periodically throughout the year again to try to control those planted in the ground. In a pot they are a little less aggressive but not as pretty in my opinion.
childofgraceus- will root some cuttings and send to you for postage- send me your address and I would expect that within a week or 2 at the most I will be able to send you rooted cuttings. I generally send things 2 day priority and the cost is usually about 5.00- if that's ok w/ you I will make the cuttings, tell you when I send them and the actual postage.
Here are a few picures of mine. This is a close up. Will look for one that is more TAA DHAA!
April, is that bird blooming? What's the pink on it?
Fly that is not a bird, though it looks like it. It's a flowering ornamental banana.

Oh, that pink part is pretty.
Yes it is. Doesn't get super tall, kind of interesting but most folks don't get so excited about it when they see it. I like it though.
aprilwillis I sent you a dmail hope to hear from you soon :)
I am just about to grow 2 Lavendar Morning Glory Bushes in My La Porte,Texas zone 9a garden.
I just ordered them yesterday from a Vendor from Watchdog.
I am so very excited about these plants and can't wait till they are here!
I know that they will do well in my area.
A Garden Friend in Spring Hill Florida has the pink and it is huge! She is also zone 9a.
She has mailed some cuttings to me from her pink bush and I will send some cuttings when I get mine.
They make lots of seeds so this is a all around great plant!
Tricia
Yes in LaPorte they will do very well. HUGE is the opperative word, make sure you give them enough space.
April
aprilwillis- I don't have a lot of space LOL! But I am sure I will find things to do with them.
The are very easy to make cuttings from I hear.
A matter of fact yesterday I got from a friend in Florida 2 cutting from her pink MG bush and I quickly put it in good soil with root hormone. They were sent to me first class mail and LOOKED Great!
My 2 new Lav. Morning glory bushes SHOULD be here from the company I ordered from HOPE HOPE!
Tricia
Tricia yes they are super easy to make cuttings of!
Thanks for posting pictures april. I just bought a rooted cutting at a Master Gardener sale a couple of weeks ago and was really wanting to see what they looked like when in bloom. You posted some great pic's--now I'm hoping I've given it plenty of room. Thanks for sharing your pic's.
Patty
Patty, your welcome. Don't forget you can always cut the sucker back if need be. I do and I do it often.
Good luck.
April
O, Hazel, may I have some of those seeds also. By the way, the ice plant cuttings you gave us in June are growing beautifully. Thanks again.
