I have a "standard" pink and a maple leaf Burgundy colored one. Am looking for white yellow red or any of the ones with mixed colors. I will share seeds, if someone tells me what they look like. I think I have some, I just want to be certain before I promise someone seeds to trade.

Wanted: Hardy hibiscus seeds
Hi KayKay,
I just found out how to locate the seeds myself, so I'll help you out :) Everywhere there is a bloom, afterwards is a pod. Let it get brown, then bring it in and open it. The seeds pop out of there.
I just got some seeds for my plain jane one that looks like this below. I'm sorry, I don't know the cultivar, but it comes back every year; this year they are about 12 feet tall, and DH hard trims them usually every year (and not like they say to in the books...LOL)
Beck, love that luna blush. Might have to see if I have something still hanging around that you'd like ;)
That is what I did, but it all looks kind of like dirt to me. Is that it, or do I just not have seeds?
Beck, I would love some of your hardy white and luna blush.
The seeds will be pretty easy to tell from the dirt. They are hard and rounded.

It's early here in Maine for Hibiscus but I have some HUGE pink ones (picture from last year) that I should get seeds from if anyone is interested. It will still be a while before mine are ready though.
I would LOVE to try some Luna Blush if you should have any extras Beck and would be happy to share my Dinnerplate sized pink ones if you like them.
Kim

OMG I am gonna have to start a list for the luna blush....Isnt she so pretty...She is my favorite....I have 3 seed pods getting ready right now couple more days maybe when I get home from work Sunday. I have 2 package ready now and they are spoken for. I have 2 others waiting. I usually but about 40 - 50 seeds in an envelope. Maybe I can cut that back just alittle. This is Luna Blushes 1st year and she is doing good job. But next year I will have tons.
I will cut the envelopes down to 30 count and be able to share more.

mamajack they both would be nice. Thank you
What do ya think kaykay arent these all beautiful hibs. There is a big choice here for ya.
Thanks
Beck
Love it, and I want them all. I love them!! You guys are the greatest.
I know how ya feel. I love Hibs.
Beck
I have no idea Pamsue...I inherited them with the house. I don't know the cultivar :( It might be rose of sharon, but I couldn't say for sure.

kaykay,
About 5 years ago, I planted some H. coccineus:
http://davesgarden.com/pf/showimage/11977/
I was directing a grant-funded project at our school, a beautiful garden with paths and a pond surrounding a professional greenhouse. I planted them by the pond there. Now, they're growing like crazy and covered in seed pods. If you have a moist area, they'll really take off.
I'll try to get out there one day next week and gather seeds. (Teachers don't get much "free time" during the school day. Now I'm teaching web design, so I don't really have a good excuse to take the class out there! LOL) If anyone would like some of these, I'd be glad to trade some.
Linda
Sure I would love some.
Hineni, what are the size of your flowers and what is the size of your bush? That may help determine if it is rose of sharon or hibiscus.
Ummm, size of flowers...(runs to get tape measure for tomorrow) - not really sure. I'd guesstimate about 4 inches when fully opened?
Bush is immense, 7 feet tall or more, actually, probably about 8-9 feet tall come to think of it.
Beck, I'll send you a D-mail re: luna blush. Thirty seeds is far too many for me - 10-15 would be fine. I'd only like one or two as a specimen type plant. That way you can share the love with more peeps :)
Kaykay, if you really need me to measure actual dimensions, just let me know and I will tomorrow....errr later today?
~Sunny
Naaaaa, that is OK, it does sound like it is a rose of sharon, though. Anyone else have an opinion?
Sounds like a Rose of Sharon to me also.
I will be happy to share my light pink dinnerplate seeds with all that want them, however, please do realize that Maine is SO FAR behind the rest of you. My first flower opened only today so it will be a while before the seeds are ready to share.
I have been collecting tons of mixed Cleome if anyone wants some of those too.
I will also have plenty of Datura Lilac Lefleur (I think that's it's name) with beautiful light lilac blooms which resemble morning glories but blooms at dusk and becomes more of a shrub.
I grew this one from seed last winter and it is still blooming here in Maine. I simply loved it.
Kim
I agree with kaykay1010. The flower that Hineni posted looks like a rose of sharon. I have both hibiscus and rose of sharon growing in my yard. The hibiscus dies to the ground in the winter. The rose of sharon like is a shrub and only looses its leaves. The branches do not die down to the ground in the winter. Also the hibiscus has seeds that ball shaped. The rose of sharon seeds are brown woody semicircles with a yellowish hairy fringe.
Then yep, from kathyvm's seed description, I have Rose of Sharon. Dunno if you are still wanting that since it isn't a hibiscus KayKay, so just let me know.
And thanks KathyVM - nothing worse than having something and not knowing what it is. Although I now have 3 envelopes of seed heads that apparently I've forgotten what they were when I collected them. Wheee, a surprise next spring (along with Beck's mystery garden...LOL)
~Sunny
I LOVE mystery gardening. I alway end up with some on my packing table and just scoop them up and put in a bag for next season. FUN,FUN,FUN,FUN,FUN!!
Kelly
Good evening all,
Oh yeah I agree with kaykay love them mysteries.
My Hibs were all from plants. I am going to try my hand at the seeds this year.
Yeap Rose of Sharon, My father in law has one and it looks like that.
I am trying lots from seeds this year. Crossing fingers that it works.
Beck
What do you think?
Oh, and why are all the pods not producing large seeds? And, although I do not have a pic yet, does anyone know what the name is of a hardy hib that is burgundy/dark plum with maple type leaves (also burgundy)
I think I got it?!Maybe?I am sorry if I sound a little dense, I just really would like to be able to get seeds to share. Thanks for all your help
Hey Everyone lookie here what Mrs. Luna Blush finally did. And she has produced enough for everyone and more.
KayKay this is the seeds and pods
Beck
Beck, I would be interested in trading for any/all of your three hibiscus. All I have is the pale pink h. moscheutos that I think has already been mentioned. I have lots of other seeds--what are you looking for
thanks,
Deb
