Alsobia 'Chiapas'

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Well, my spring cutting of Alsobia 'Chiapas' has grown quite a bit. It is over 12" across now and has buds in every leaf axil. Wasn't sure if I was going to like it, but now I think I do.

Your's is really pretty. I like the dark foliage. I have grown a zillion Cygnets and some Iris Angel Alsobia's. I enjoy these plants so easy to grow and progate. Thanks for sharing your's !

Thanks! This larger growing variety has turned out well. I like the soft sheen and color of the leaves and the unusual blossoms are more greenish white in person. Doesn't produce stolons though. I will take a top cutting and propagate that way. Several in a larger pot would probably look nice.

The only others I have are 'San Miguel' which I've had for a while plus some newly aquired badly sunbleached 'Cygnet' from Bluebird Greenhouse. This summer has seen some extreme heat.

I took several cuttings of the 'Cygnet' and they are doing fine and will grow out and return to their normal green color.

Love my violets but sure enjoy growing other gessies as companions as well ;0)

very nice! I like the dark foliage too. I've been looking at photos of that one and wondering if I would like it. I think, perhaps, yes! I imagine it will get quite big.

I'm wondering myself how big it might become. Have only grown it since this past spring from a cutting. Roots very easily. Will be interesting to see how it will look in one year.

I imagine if I take the top to propagate, the remaining plant will branch. I do the same thing with Kohlerias. Might try rooting a leaf or two to see what will happen.

I've tried rooting episcia leaves for an experiment and they have rooted and produced plants. I did this only as a test as stolons are so easy.

Always something new in the gessie world!
