My New Bedroom

Kennebunk, ME(Zone 5a)

I just wanted to share a shot of what I wake up to on my side of the bed in our new house everyday. Notice I got the windows on "my side of the bed" :)

They seem happy to be inside now since they spent the month of July outside here in Maine which was quite difficult for me more than them *lol*

Kim they are beautiful plants. Looks like they didn't mind being outside at all. You have given me some decorating ideas... a table under each window is perfect after the ledges are all full:) Now why didn't I think of that!

have a great day

Thank you all so much for the compliments *blush* I thought the windowsills were going to be larger on my bay windows but still found ways around it. The sills will be good for small plants but right now I don't have much for small plants that aren't already in windows. The chest in the bedroom was my husbands grandmother's hope chest. It used to be coated with that thick black laquer that you could write your name in. I stripped it all down and found the most beautiful cedar.

It was difficult to moderate the amount of water they received and how much sun each was getting etc. If you can imagine someone in the woods (naked as a jay bird as I only had 1 dry nightgown) in the pouring rain at midnight trying to pull a HUGE tarp over her babies so that they didn't drown during the night you would see that I suffered more than they did believe me *lol*.

Just beautiful Kim. Your really ARE creative!! You should be a home decorator for plant displays.
Your place looks very "woodsy". Bet it smells wonderful in the morning outside.
Hey....I didn't see a big bella anywhere. ;-)

Kim your showing signs of a true addict. I know people who run out in the rain at midnight and collect rain water...... Hmmmm I forgot to ask her if she was naked and just assumed she had on her jammies....

Your windows look really good, they show off your beautiful bead work and lovely plants. Your new house looks lovely.... Congrats...

Thank you all again for the wonderful compliments. It sure is making me blush here *lol*.
I am so happy to FINALLY have the room to display my plants the way I've always dreamed of displaying them. BUT in a 14x70 mobile home with 4 people it just wasn't possible.

Marcy, I didn't show a picture of my Bella because the presentation there isn't as nice or pretty as my bedroom but I will attach a picture of it for you. I'm VERY worried about my Bella and don't think she's going to make it. Her leaves are VERY thin and leathery and all the buds are turning yellow and falling off. Ever since I repotted it it has slowly deteriorated. Most of her leaves have tiny black dots. This seems to happen to all the bellas I have tried to grow. If she dies, I have decided that this is just one I can't grow even though it will break my heart.

Here is a picture of her:

Oh darn. That's a shame Kim. However, don't feel bad...we ALL have ones that give us a bad time, and just won't live for us.
I keep bellas in a saucer of water all the time like African Violets. One of them I have double potted and let it set in about an inch of water in there too. I do let the water run out once in a while & go dry sometimes, but not for long. If it has been dry for a day or 2 or 3, I then add more water to the bottom.
I used to keep one in an "self-watering" pot too and that one did OK for a year or so. I think it got too cold and wet one winter though and I lost it too.
I do think it is a touchier hoya than most to keep happy.
You could take cuttings and start them, but I don't blame you for being discouraged.
So sorry.

I have the same "relationship" with bella as you do, Kim. I've taken new cuttings over and over again and this last time I didn't even WANT to, so the whole plant went in the trash. As sad as it was, it was also a relief.

Yep, I don't have one either because they like it cool and my house is too warm in the winter.

I'm very relieved to hear this from you Christina as I certainly think of you as an experienced hoyan and it's good to know I'm not alone. It seems that no matter what I do for this hoya I can't make it happy. This is true for me with Lacunosa too and of course I love them both so much and have tried over and over to make them happy. I have killed my last of these plants and although it breaks my heart because I want them to like me even though they don't, I must cherish the plants that DO like me. I hope to stumble on a nice pot of Curtisii someday once our Lowe's opens up as I have a TINY cutting of this and would love to grow a big pot of it. Hurry up Lowe's and open up!

Kim
