Anyone else get FROST last night?

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

It just totally bums me out. It is only the end of Aug. They are calling for frost again tonight. Didn't lose anything last night though. Daytime temp's have really dropped. Was only around 13ºC the last two days & is 15ºC today. I was hoping for a repeat of last year but doesn't look like it. In '05 it was still 25ºC on Oct. 4. That was my best gardening year ever.

Hope everyone else is frost-free.

broots...how sad, know it's coming but surely not so soon....live approx 100 miles north of Toronto and starting to see signs of Fall...today, the sky is so heavy one feels like they can reach up and touch it...not good news for us gardners....

Dirty, dirty, dirty, dirty, filthy word there Linda.

Pam (who still hasn't forgotten your cutting of an epi (totally) ....... will send it next spring when it has the best chance of rooting). Have to send one to Milan too (actually sent him a parcel and forgot it). Please, please remind me!!!!!

Oh no! I'll will fervently hope that this is just a minor aberration broots, and that the weather will become friendlier for you once again - at least for a little while longer. --Ginny

Yikes! Frost...this soon? Say this isn't possible. We are still in the 'teens at night. I can't even think about it yet.

Surely surely not. We have finally cool nights which are great for sleeping. Even Darm in Hay River NWT hasn't started talking frost yet.

Look on the bright side. Oce you have frost you can start moving your lilies around lol. Cover things with sheets etc. That will probably be OK for the first frost.
I hope.

Thanks for the replies. Yes Inanda, I guess that is one good thing I could look forward to. My Lilium rubrum is just beginning to open. Just don't like to hear of frost so soon. The end of Sept is ok. Had frost again on the 25th but everything was ok. The first thing I do every morning is look out the window & see if the roofs are white. Starting to think about covering certain things though.

Good idea to cover what you can.

It seems like yesterday that we were waiting for Spring.

Sigh

They are speaking for frost in central Newfoundland tonight...suppose to drop to +1! In St. John's today it only reached 12 C, the coldest day since last May. Currently at 10:30 pm it is still 10 C so no risk of frost here, but its suppose to stay cool for another day. Tuesday is suppose to reach up to 20 C. I don't want to see frost until at least mid-October!

Winnipeg, MB(Zone 2b)

Farmers Almanac says it will be a rotten cold winter, particularly mid west and prairies, with lots of extra snow all overthe east. They even use the 'd' word.

was out checking my garden this morning only to find my cucumber plants looking pretty sad...I think we may have had a touch of frost....with leaves on the ground, waiting for raking and sweater in hand, I think it's time to prepare the gardens/pond for what surely is around the corner!!1

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

With temperatures in our area predicted to be in the 30's again this weekend, I am not about to give in yet!!!

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Well I dont know what officially happened but there was frost on the roofs and the car this morning and a bit on the grass too. My neighbors are away and I did go out and cover their tomatoes last night but Iall the plants in the garden seem to be fine - haven't checked the zuchini yet. Horrors! Maybe it froze? How sad that would be!

Linda I hope you have been able to save your garden and can enjoy it for a little while longer.

Cochrane, ON(Zone 2b)

So far so good Pam, but I think I might be on borrowed time. I'll take every extra day that I can get. Don't think we will ever see a repeat of last year.

This stinks. Guess it's probably early frost for us tonight too. Some got it last night, but I didn't see any evidence. Tonight I think we'll all get it. Going back out to cover some stuff and pick tomatoes.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

Bummer. Hope covering your stuff works.

Ann
