Last year our nighttime temps went down into the 20s the day after labor day. Most of mine were budded but it scared me so I cut them off except for a few that I dug up. The ones I cut I put in bubblers and the ones I dug, I put them in black trash bags and put a bungi cord around the top. These were over 8 feet tall and up in the rafters of the basement.

I dumped water, about a gallon in the bags a couple of times a year, and those did the best. I just took them out and planted them this spring. Now, if I had had a good place to put them, the ones in the bubblers would have done good. But my basement was too warm and light. So, I had an aphid infestation I could not stop. I did save most of them, but it took them a long time to get going this spring.

This, for what it is worth. BTW, I had one bud open up in the bubblers and that was it.

All of this for what it is worth.

This year, they are staying outside, at least the ones in the ground, and if they bloom I will save them and if not they can freeze. I'm getting tired of babying these darned things.

When I say they are staying outside, I mean until possibly October. Last year it was in the 20s for 2 weeks after labor day and then it warmed up until November. Go figure.

I know weather is strange my hubby got our storm windows on then it warmed up nov ,dec weird weather

We are in the low 40s at night now.

how long can they stay outside?

I would not even hazzard a guess. There are too many variables. I have some on the north side of the house so those are pretty protected. I have some out in the open on the south side and those are planted in the ground so I am assuming that if I don't dig them, they will be the first to go.

I was surprised that the ones on the north and west side of the house took the cold pretty good. BUT, my whole area is pretty protected by mountains almost right to my doorstep so, like I say, there are too many things that could make a difference.

The ones in pots I will try real hard to save. But, I have a lot of them and just a small room to put them in. So, if they go in there with with any type of infestation, I will have a mess. However, this room is going to be pretty cool. Like in the high 30s. I am guessing. So, who knows.

Im thinking I might have to cut mine i noticed leaves on bottom changing to yellow and people covering there tomato plants at night

How many do you have? Do you have any duplicates? If so, I would leave the extras outside, especially if they are budded, and see how they do.

I left 2, the biggest ones I had, out last year after I cut the others, and they lasted a long time. One was in full bloom for about 2 months, right up through October. Both of them were about 8 feet tall and 4 feet wide. The one that was in full bloom I didn't keep, just let it freeze, and the other one I planted in the garden this year and it still has not bloomed. This year it can just sit out there until it freezes. Too much work if they aren't going to bloom.

No not one has bloomed.some leaves are turning yellow i think from cold.
It is a darn shame,But i think i started to late.Im end of may for planting and we are defently into cold weather. How do i find value of some of these.I might cut down keep one of each and sell rest.what do you think?
I was kinda dissapointed -I am 4-11 lol and one is almost tall as me.....

How cold is it there? I wouldn't think it would be cold enough yet to bother them. Are you sure you don't have spider mites? Why the leaves are yellowing. Are they all planted directly in the ground? I don't know where you would sell them unless maybe ebay. Where did you get them? From a reputable dealer? If you are not sure of the seller you got them from, you might not have the ones you think you do. It is hard to tell until they bloom.

I am sure you are disappointed. I can't advise you on what to do. Maybe somebody else will.
