The picture of this ackee was taken in my front yard in 2007. The ackee usually has three pegs but this one for some reason has four.

These are the pegs that grow inside the ackee. To clean them to eat you must remove the black shiny seed on the top and the pink arilli on the inside of the cream colored meat.

This is a young ackee tree it takes about four or five years to grow to maturity

Raw Ackee Pegs all that is left to do is to clean them and cook them. Contrary to some comments i have seen on here it is not the seed that is edible. It is the cream colored meat attached to the seed. Eating the seed will cause what is Commonly known as Jamaican Vomiting sickness and eventually death if not treated immediately.
