Cedar Key, FL(Zone 9a)

if you can root them I'd like instructions.......

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I cannot say I have honestly ever tried to root one. They are very easy from seed so most people just start seeds. I may still have some seedlings stunted in cell packs if you are interested. I'd have to look. You may also just want to post for seeds. They are as easy from seed as pepper plants and they bloom quickly too. Seeds are also really cheap to mail. ;)

Fate, TX(Zone 8a)

well i am going right out and take a cutting to see if it can be rooted. i never thought of it either. what a novel idea.

Tacoma, WA(Zone 8a)

Badseed, I will take seeds, but I must be seed challenged I've tried growing them put them in the paper towel, none rooted. Tried in seed soil pots.. no plant. So I figured I would go for cuttings. I have two plants that I was going to do cuttings off of, but wanted different types too. So thats where I'm coming from.

I grew a beautiful light purple one (I think Lilac LeFleur) from seed this year. It is pretty much a small shrub right now and still blooming it's head off and loaded with spiney seed cases. I have collected about 3 or 4 pods from it now. I won't be able to bring the plant in for the winter and it will definately die in our zone 5 winter so you are welcome to the mother plant if you want to pay shipping on it.

Let me know and I will be happy to box it up for you. I'm assuming it will be around $10.00 to mail (maybe a little less). I know what you mean about being seed challenged and was quite surprised to be able to grow this 1 plant from the many seeds that I started as nothing else I seemed to try from seed seemed to grow. She sure is a healthly little shrub though and I'll be happy to get a picture of her for you this evening if the blooms open (we're supposed to have an overcast day).

daturas take awhile to root from seed on certian varities some fatsre then others. i have waited a month for some to sprout.

the cutting i have tried from dats have never worked. also they are a annual to most people and why bother?? seeds are easier.

another thing on seeds they dont like to be planted deep sun helps germination.

Hillsdale, MI(Zone 5b)

I have some baby datura's in pots only about 6-8 inches high. My seeds are ripe yet the pods on the plant are still green and I have the best luck planting the seeds while they are still fresh.

Vizz, they can be slow to sprout. You might want to try a little bottom heat. I have done them in coffee filters in baggies and also sown in the top of seed mix. It is possible you tried with empty/bad/older seeds. I'll look outside in a bit. I think I did doubles and triples of purples and yellows and never got them planted.

I meant to add that I was not trying to give you a hard time or make fun of you. I thought maybe you wanted brugs. :) People often confuse them.

Badseed, did'nt take it as a slam, I'm pretty new to some plants and any advice is very welcom.

Kim: Do not bother to dig up your Dat. I will go for the seed again. Thank you so much for your offer.

So anyone out there that has some seed, LMK. thanks

I have the lilac lefleur and raspberry swirl. With both, I presoaked over night in hot water and planted. Sprouted fairly quickly.

Hi About Datura's.
I've not tried to do cuttings But I see no reason why they should'd take.
They say datura's are an annual. The one's I had in pots came back from last year. They went through a freeze and all. I thought that to be very strange.

linda, my double purple and white did the same thing. i have 2 plants that i forgot about and they froze. i went and dug them up the next morning, brought them in and figured they had died but both came back. what's up with this? oh, and linda did you leave the pots outside?

Hillsboro, OH(Zone 6a)

I've grown the "Evening Fragrance" variety for years. I only planted it once. LOL It's a happy little self seeder even in zone 6. Most years, the carrot like root winters over here in zone 6 and also continues to grow when it warms up.
