Advice Needed on Salvia Clevelandii
Mine is doing great--All I can do is tell you how mine is grown. Likes medium amount of water, not too dry like some salvias; mine is in half day shade (morning shade--about 4-5 hours afternoon sun). I manage to keep it real dead-headed because its right nexy to the front door and I stop and dead-head on my way in from work. That's my favorite salvia--so aromatic.
Fish emulsion and organice fertilizers--no messenger. I've noticed the salvias (and some other plants too) definitely do not like messenger.

Thanks Debbie,
Since we're in the "same neck of the woods" your reply is very helpful and I needed to know whether this is normal or not...Mine has the same conditions, morning shade and HOT afternoon sun, supplamental water when the soil around it is dry, but I have fed it with 13-13-13..What is messenger?
How about worm castings?..I usually feed my ailing plants with that..
Its my favorite too. ( the plant, not the worm castings)
Thanks,
Lynn
worm castings are great--my personal favorite is bat guano. Messenger is too long to explain and get into and the messenger lovers will bite my head off and I don't feel like listening to it. New Caney...ain't that on the way to Galvestion? I could root you some replacements for the College Station RU--if you want me to try and will be there. I never use anything stronger than 8-8-8 on anything--but that's just me (organic here). 13-13-13 is probably not a problem.
Ok..No Biting Here..
My Clevlandii is maybe 18 inches tall..How big and old is yours..I see reports of some really BIG plants and am wondering what to expect.
New Caney is North..north of Humble ..Off Hwy 59 in the Piney Woods.
Thanks for the offer of rooted cuttings..I probably won't be in College Station, but I appreciate the offer..I'lll see what happens with seeds..
Other than "from Bats", where do you get Bat guano..?
..
At the privately owned nurseries for the bat. I've only had my plant this summer (since June)--it's maybe 2' x 2'.
