Oooooweeee! This bugger is tiny!!! Was out at the ranch looking for butterflies and spotted a Ceraunus Blue laying eggs on a native cassia. Saw some hatched eggs too but I left the native shrubs alone. Am going to drive out there next weekend to check their progress. Might even convince myself to bring them back with me to raise.

Woohoo...a Ceraunus Blue egg
That has to be so tiny if it's from a "Blue". Do you have a picture of a mommy or daddy? I don't think we have any blue's around here, unless they are just so small and I think they are Hairstreaks.
I saw two tiny blue butterflies mating out in the pepper patch yesterday! I'm not sure what they were... still getting up to speed on butterfly IDs. :-) Sorry to say my camera was inside.... I may have to get one of those wafer-sized cameras that will fit easily in my pocket!
That's an awesome photo... I don't know how you spotted that egg, let alone managed to get such a clear picture of it!
bring them home Cat so we can see there progress. Great find
Mama was so tiny and she was moving so quickly I couldn't get a focused shot. I was also trying to remember which branches she lit on so I could look for the eggs.
Was looking over my egg photos from last weekend and there are some out of focus looking lime green caterpillars off to the sides...at least I think they were cats. They look like blurry worms :o)
Smack me silly! I never thought to look for cats on those shrubs! DUH!!! I do hope I can find them again...I want to raise these tiny little butterflies!!! Will post updated photos if all goes well this weekend.

Cat,
I have enjoyed your posts. I have recently gotten into Gardening and now have a new Butterfly garden I planted for my gd.
I pretty much grew up in McAllen and during that time I never paid attention to Butterflies.
It is very nice to see some pics of the Butterflies etc from "home".
Michelle:)
Michelle...
...and to think I only got into butterflies last January. I am hooked!!! Hopefully you come back to the valley for a vacation. The Mission, TX 11th Annual Butterfly Festival will be this October 19-22.
South Florida has many of the butterflies that we get in south Texas. You'll have to let me know if you see any Atala butterflies. They are only seen in the south tip of your state. I bought a coontie cyad for my yard...you just never know :o)
