YOUR AV OPINIONS PLEASE....

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I need to get opinions on the best RED flowering AV.

If you have a pic please add it. It doesn't matter the type standard, mini or trailer...just the color RED.

No need to add the descriptions yet... just the photos.

Thanks

Of the ones I grow, I would have to say 'Apache Redcoats'. Blossoms are more of a rose red with the most gorgeous dark ruffled rose variegated foliage. Highly recommended variety and one of my top favorites.

My favorite red is: ACA's Red Ember. Nice contrast with the variegated leaft.

Very nice!

I love the Apache series and have a few...so I will make an effort to add that 'Apache Redcoats and see how it grows for me.

I have a very small Ace's Tornado but it isn't looking too good. I do love the contrast of variegated foliage.

Thanks to both of you..if you think of any others please add them..

MsC.....you won't be sorry growing Apache Redcoats. That plant's foliage is so beautiful, the blossoms are just icing on the cake.

Grow several varieties of Apaches and can recommend Apache Freedom and Apache Victory among others if you like ruffled variegated foliage which I really do.

Snowrose,
I love the Apache and love them.
I have Apache Freedom & it just finished blooming! Very nice.
Also have Apache Mystery and Thunderbird, too.

I have Bob Serbin, Powwow & Emergency...I haven't had them all bloom at the same time to compare them so I'm searching for one more red.

MsC,
Another one you might like is Rebel's Crested Robin. It is a beauty with dark green glossy foliage.

Just one more, eh??

LOL... well just one more RED... ;-)

I don't really know where I'm gonna put anymore...I'm surely suffering from 'Collectoritis'.
Not to worry I'm sure I'll get some dreaded diesease or somesuch & will have to start all over. I think that just goes with the AV territory?? lol

Here is my Optimara California. (I think) Looks pinker here, but is actually a velvety deep burgandy red. I just got a Bbb Serbin, but it's a baby still. When he blooms, I'll be sure to post. Also have another red NOID that isn't blooming right now.

Bloom Type: Single
Bloom Color: Red

Leaf Type: Quilted
Leaf Color: Medium green, red reverse leaf

Well I have Bob Serbin but it is just a leaf with some babies happening so it will be a while before I get any flowers. I have heard it can be unstable too but not sure about that.

Don...your Optimara is pretty!

TFS!

Thanks Joanne. I sure hope that's not correct about Bob Serbin. It's one plant that I have wanted for so long. My plantlet is a good size one, but of course, no blooms yet.

I love that Opt Cal.. a friend was just asking me about it.

I've not heard that Bob Serbin is unstable???
Mine seems to be pretty good.

Morning,

I can't remember where I read that but this person said the color was unstable but there are so many variable growing conditions so it might have just been that person growing conditions who knows.

I remember I seen a comparison of growing conditions on a plant and it was unreal the difference it can make.

I have been growing Bob Serbin under lights for years. The plants have always bloomed true for me. I have never heard of it being unstable before.

My vote is for the ACA's Red Ember that is a must have on my list now! LOL

Ace's Red Ember.... It is very nice, isn't it??

I like the way the bloom stands out from it's foliage.
