Apple sauce vs. oil

I know that many are substituting apple sauce for oil in recipes but I would like to know if when you use apple sauce, do you use the same abount that you would use if it were oil? (Dont know if that makes any sense..)

If a recipe calls for 1 cup of oil, can you just use 1 cup of apple sauce instead?
