Crock Pot Roast

Decatur, GA(Zone 7a)

Since I've lost 15 pounds in 2 weeks (not good), my doc wants me to at least slow down the loss, but not to fill up on empty calories. I've decided to go for "comfort foods" that will, hopefully, cause me to enjoy the food more, and eat a bit more.

Today I decided to put on a pot roast in the crock pot. My initial thought was, how hard can it be? I'll just look up a recipe... Well, I need a bit of help. So far I've braised the roast on both sides and have put it in the pot with dry Golden Onion Soup mix on both sides. I have it on high since I just started it. But now what? I have carrots, onions, and potatoes ready to go in, but when? My dh said to add beef broth, but again, when?

Will any of you excellent cooks help me with this basic recipe? Normally my dh does the majority of the cooking, but since I can't go in to work for a week or so, I thought I'd give it a shot.

Thanks,
Carmen
