Greetings from Tombstone, AZ

Porter, TX(Zone 9a)

Hello Texas friends. Mr Prickle and I are making our way towards our new home in TX, finally.

Right now we're in Tombstone. Most people know about the OK Corral and Boot Hill, but Tombstone is also home to the world's biggest rose bush.

It's a Lady Banksia rose that originally came from Scotland in 1885. It grows from a single trunk and covers 8000 square feet of arbor.

It was hard to get a good pic because it was really dark under there.

Tomorrow we move on to Roswell, NM. Let's see if I can dig up something garden related from there :P

Roswell might be a good place to find "alien" plants as opposed to "natives"! LOL Just couldn't resist that.

Wow! that is an amazing rose bush, I didn't know that roses could get that large.
Absolutely incredible! thank you for letting us see.

Does this huge rosebush actually have the flush of blooms in the springtime? Does anyone know? I don't know if the 'senior' bushes still bloom, or is it foliage. Thanks so much for sharing this incredible rosebush! tosaho AKA TexasGardenGal.

That is some amazing rose bush! who knew it would be in AZ w/ all the other areas claiming to be rose captials, etc.

By the way, Prickle, hope you get to Texas (the promised land) soon and happy.

I have a white Lady Banksia that has been growing for about 12 years and they do get incredibly big! Mine was gorwing 20 feet up into the old Pecan tree in a pasture next to me. We hard pruned it to a stub after this last spring's blooms and it's already surpassed the shed again. It's lovely but very unruly and only blooms once per year, in spring. But the fragrance is enchanting.

That's an awesome bush up there!

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the well wishes :)

I'm here in Roswell, but we haven't been out and about yet, we may do that tomorrow.

Crowelli, lol.

Tosaho, yes the rose still blooms. I'm sorry we missed the flush, that would have really been a sight to see. I have a post card with a picture of it in bloom. When I get settled I'll scan it.

Knolan, this is a white Lady Banksia too.
