I have a former aviary that I intend to convert to a potting shed when I can replace the roof. The old one rotted so we pulled it off and left it open. I used it last year with plastic wrapped around it to house more tender plants over winter. I took all the plants out this summer but when my son tried to move this one gal pot of p.edulis, it turns out the roots went out the drainage hole and into the ground. I wondered why it was growing so well. LOL.
I decided to leave it for the time and it is literally taking over the structure. Looks really neat though. It is so busy growing that it has yet to bloom. I don't know what I'll do this winter.
It is currently using the 2-4 roof rafters as a trellis and actually growing over the wall and onto the outside of the structure.
P. Edulis is eating my shed!
Hey Do you still keep Budgies ?
Hi,
No not anymore. I used to breed and exhibited for a short time but it got to be too time consuming as I had a couple hundred other birds as well. I do miss them. I only have 1 pair of cockatiels sitting on eggs now and their 1 baby from March.
Jan...
Wow! It's definitely the vine that ate Jan's house! (Or will be) lol!
i use show to and had other birds to lots of work Paul
Jan-
I've been wanting to plant an edible passiflora, but read that edulis, & flavicarpa don't do well over 100 degrees, (which we've had a record number of, this year).
Has yours been in that kind of heat? It doesn't appear to have burnt tips, or even be stressed. It also looks like it is in full sun, right?
Do you know if you have the purple fruited one, or yellow?
thanks!

Hi Taylor,
Yes it is in full sunfor most of the day. Late afternoon, the neighbors tree sheds some shade on it but not until around 3-4 pm or so. We have been in the mid 90's during the day for several weeks now. It is flourishing but no blooms as yet so I don't know what the color will be. It is probably the healthiest plants I have growing right now.
Sounds like I need to at least try it...
Just my luck... I'm a zone & a half colder than you, but 10-15 degrees warmer than you right now, lol...
