Hello All! My name is Randa. I am new to the group..and fairly new at gardening! We moved to the Texas Coast about 2 and half yrs ago as my husband's company transferred him here to Ingleside(bout 20 mins from Corpus.moved from the Conroe area) Well, THAT changed when another company came in and contracted my husband's. The contracting company made an offer to my husband, he..WE..couldnt refuse! They build satellite receivers for our military. They look like a HUGE golf ball! Also, they build and install massive telescopes.(think Hubble). Sooo, with the new job, Aaron(hubby)travels worldwide. I stay close to home because we have a 2 and half yr old grandson and a baby girl due in just over 2 weeks! Aaron is currently in South America, The Chilean Andes, working. He will be home in 13 days!! YIPPPEEE!!! Since he has been gone, I have discovered a new love!!! MY PLANTS!!! I am soooo eager to learn..and hope you all will be patient as I ask for help and advice!...Oh..and I guess you can tell, I do love to talk! LOL! Thanks in advance!..WW..I am a Boston's Mom, too! I will hafta get his pic on here! He loves to smile...to beat the heat..Shoot..he lounges back, all 4 legs up in the air...snoring away while inside with the AC on!! He is rotten..but I love him!..Ok..I'm rambling! I hope I make some sense!LOL!
new to site and forum!!
Welcome to the GC turbosbabe! You're sure to meet a lot of new friends here and within a year, you will have a spectacular garden!
What kind of garden do you have and/or planning?
Kristi
Welcome and you'll find that everyone here is very friendly. I've gotten loads of good advice on everything from "how do I keep this alive" to "how do I kill this". The Texas Gardening forum is my favorite on the entire site because of all the friendly, helpful folks. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Kristi....Well, I have a very eclectic variety. I really love perennials.I am a nut for color..I need to get some blues in..and add more foilage for the dramatic effect...However, I am about ready to venture into some type of rock, water, or xeriscape. My honey will be home in 11 days! Yippee!!! He built a water garden some years ago. It was before I realized I would actually enjoy gardening. I do have a question..and I may find it as soon as I post this and do hunting, but still gonna ask. Are there some plants that just flat out do better if you put them in the ground as opposed to some that do best in containers??? I have a large patio and have all sorts of plants around it. I am most proud of my aloe vera and my hibiscus. The darn cut ants almost wiped my beautiful hibiscus out..Anyway..any info would be appreciated! Thanks!.
oops..one more..Anyone know where I can find "not your run of the mill" planters?? I dont like to have what everyone else does. My mom says I have been marching to the beat "of a different drum" since I made my presence known 46 yrs ago!! LOL!
Welcome Turbo! I am sure you will make friends in your area quickly. Wish you luck in the new area. I think where you are will be a very good place for both container and in-ground plantings. Just search around on the forums and I am sure you will get the info you seek. Look at the top of this forum and see if there is a swap in your area that you can meet others face to face at. That makes you really feel like part of the family.
Hi Randa....welcome to DG. Hey,...there is a Plant Swap
meeting in San Antonio coming in October.....consider coming & meet new friends....it will be my 1st one and I'm lookin' forward to it!!
My DW & I use to live in Corpus Christi some years back....so I know just where Ingleside is.....been thru there numerous times!
I have an old Christmas tree stand (for a large tree)
that I made a planter out of.... some pink Ruellia growin' in it! I like unconventional planters as well! :~)
Talk to ya in the future! Lee
Thanks to all of yall for the very warm welcome! I am absolutely nuts bout this site! There is NO excuse for me not to have nice flowers, green, green plants..and over all healthy garden! I have to tell yall..ONLY 9 more days and my beloved Aaron will be HOME!! Oh how I miss him! He told me tonight he already has the blueprints drawn up for a trellis, some octagonal and hexagonal planters/containers, and a TEXAS shaped container! He is such a keeper!! I helped my friend and neighbor this evening with her yard. I tell ya..she has ALL these plants and they have been looking so sad..I dont know a whole lot about a lot of different plants..but I know a little about a few! LOL! At any rate, it was fun digging in the South Texas Soil..and totally laden with sweat..I felt like I had accomplished something GOOD when we were done! I have really been loving my new therapist....Mother Earth and all she has to offer!
WHODATHUNK??? me..gardening!! I love it!! :-)
