Japanese Chimera

While looking at chimeras on ebay I stumbeled across this beauty. What do you all think of it? I hope the link works.http://cgi.ebay.com/Japanese-Chimera-African-Violet-Yukako-RARE_W0QQitemZ330019061262QQihZ014QQcategoryZ75640QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Hey cedarnest.....I grow this chimera...'Yukako'. It has a very unique lavender blossom with green stripes. I've had it for a while now long enough to take a generous center crown cutting and have about six nice sized suckers filling in. Grows well in both natural light and under florescents. Since the foliage is light green, grows better near the end of the shelf under lights.

Interesting and novel plant if only for it's unusual blossom color.

Snow,Yours is much prettier than the ebay one.The colors are fabulous! Very interesting plant indeed.I just LOVE it!! You are lucky!! Doubt I will ever be able to afford one but your pic is Beautiful!Nancy

Still very pricey since it is not widely available as yet. One of these days though with so many growers out there, I'm sure the price will fall dramatically as do so many unique varieties. Some sellers kind of wear things out if you know what I mean.

LOL!!! I know only too well what you mean.....it is called supply and demand....very high price that is.

But yes, it is like anything you pay to have it first.

MsC,

I love chimera trailers. There is one I grow that I like called 'Hawaiian Trail'. Which ones do you have? I did have 'Pony Ride' but no longer grow that one.

Here is Hawaiian Trail blossom............

Oh very cool!

I have mostly the Rob's trailer , Humpty Doo & MirriWinni.Maybe one other... I have too many plants to keep up with them all..lol

I like Pony ride but just haven't gotten around to getting many of the chimeras.

Thanks cedarnest!

MsC....I really like the chimera trailers but haven't added anymore mainly because they are hard to find and too expensive when I do. Seems like they would be good for trades as getting new crowns is easy compared to non-trailers.

Hi Snowrose;
Have you tried kiki grow on them yet? I did & it works wonderful, got new babies starting.

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Hi mrsbonnie,
I have never tried keikigrow as of yet. Tell me more about it. I just remove the center crown on chimeras when big enough and rely on sucker growth. Would really like to hear about your experience.

Wow both of those are extraordinary!

I just tried it on concord & could'ent believe it worked. It does, you could have all kinds of babies in no time. It cost about 25.00 & a very small little jar, but you use almost nothing, just scratch the stem where the blossom & leaves are & your done.about a month later you will see the new little plant growing. they do have a web site that shows you just what to do. It's great,Now i won't mind buying chimera's when i know i dont have to cut there heads off.lol I will try & take a picture of this & post it.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning MrsBonnie....

I found your instructions...will go on the net and if I can find the site...willl post it for everyone.

TFS!

mrsB.........wow, that does sound good! I have always hated mutilating my chimeras. They look so ugly, it makes me sick!! Have just about quit with them as I hated the process of removing the center crown and ending up with something that looks like a spider.

I will try the keikigrow for sure!

Thanks for sharing your experience..........
