Hi,
I am not the one who's taking care of the pond, and I don't know anything about pond, but it's too dirty now, so I decided to do something about it. Dirty means it's smelly, the water is green, and I see some green foam floating around. I should have asked here first, but I didn't. I ordered the Crystal Lagoon, applied to the pond following directions. It's been two days, and I am not sure I see any difference, except that the floating foam is gone. I think the smell is still there. Is there anything else I need to do?
I am living in warm area, southern california. The pond is real small, with the waterfall and the filter pump in one line (meaning whenever the pump is turned on, the waterfall is working. They are not turned on all the time. Right now there are about 5 small fish in it.
Sorry if my post is difficult to understand. I don't really know the right terms to use.
Thank you very much. Any info is appreciated.

Crystal Lagoon question
You said if the pump is turned on! My pump is turned on 24/7 because it has skimmer and biofalls and that prevents some of the waste to settle at the buttom. Are you using well water??If it was my pond I would change water 50 %,do water check meaning levels odf ammonia. na,ph etc, etc. I add peroxide to my pond occasionally and I have crystal clear water.Had you seen my pond?? It is the thread New Members pond. Happy ponding!! Bellie
Thanks for replying. Yes, the water was just changed last two week completely clean, after all the fished died at once (they lived around 1 year, got really big, then suddenly died in on day). After that, we just bought a few small fish. The fish are still living now, but the water is real green.
Hi
I live outside Baton Rouge, La. and we have hot. . . H O T. . .H O T, humid days. I have had a pond for 9 years and the easy way to get rid of the green is a UV light. You need to know how many gallons your pond is and purchase a light accordingly.
Hope this advise helps because I have definely been there.

A sudden loss of fish, in your case is possible, by the water getting too warm, without airation (pump) not running. That would be simplest cause. otherwise amonia, or nitrites buildup got too high. Or it could be any combination of any of those factors.
You do need to keep a pump running, 24-7. It should be a high enough volume, to change all the water in the pond through the filter at once every 2 hours. Also for your benifit, you should get an inexpencive test kit. and keep track of any changes in the quality of the water. Your local pet store where they carry fish should have one. They have directions as how to perform the tests. and usually a sugestion as what to do for whatever is out of balance.
I would also folow jeri11's advise. about a UV light. If it is the right size for the pond, it will kill the algae bloom so your filter will take care of it.
However If any lawn chemicals were to leach into the pond, none of the above would help.
Be very careful in that respect. By makeing sure no water runoff can get in your pond.
You can get a ton of information , ( sorry I'm having a brain fart here) its either POND DOC, or KOI VET just goggle one of them in. They will list most of the problems, and give some of the solutions. Good luck and happy ponding. I will second jeri11. BEEN THERE DONE THAT.
Hope my rambling offered some help. Russ
Thank you Russ and jeri11. I don't have lawn near my pond, and yes, the weather has been very hot, and the pump was not running all the time. I think those reasons are enough for the fact that all my fished died.
I am keeping the pump running 24-7 now. The filter is cleaned every day. And with the aid of Lagoon Crystal, the water is clear, but the color is still green. But since the green water doesn't hurt the fish, I will not need to be hurry to find a UV light. Seems like they are a bit expensive.
Thanks again for your suggestions.
Eliza
