Ok.. I think that should give everyone something to smile at ...

I have some pics of my trailers I will start a new thread on.

Joanne,
I love ebay and am quite addicted to a few sellers plants.I've learned who I am pleased with & who to avoid like the plague..lol
Since I've started collecting AV's and gessies I went from ONE 4 shelf stand to 7 stands and always have the diningroom table full, too.. Hubby just laughs. He's a keeper!

MsC

Oh MsC that King's Treasure is a beaut. Who is the hybridizer? I'll be tracking down one of those. The Kohleria is a stunner, how big does it get? Does it like a AV environment? I just might have to make room for one on my shelves.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi MsC,

I love that terrarium! What a wonderful idea! I am going to use it! I love Kohleria's too. I have two of them..which one is that? That is a pretty flower.

Winter Warrior is stunning!

7 stands! Holy moly girl!!! What is your power bill? I think I would have to have a full time job just to pay the power bill! Are they all three tier? I just bought another one and that is two for me and that is it.........I think!!!! LOL!

I love them like my kids!

TFS!

King's Treasure is an oldie. I grew it for man years. You can only get it from freinds now or on e-Bay. It dates back to 1989 and is a Sorano hybrid.

MsC,

Thank you for posting your be-au-ti-ful plants! I thought I was bad, but you beat me by one stand. I plan to change that for Christmas as I want to add 'just one more'!

I totally like your use of an upside down jar for a terrarium in which you grow E. Star of Bethlehem. Great idea.

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm so glad ya'll enjoyed my pics... I love sharing them .

I must have killed a thousand of these plants before I got the hang of growing them..lol

Yes, I recounted & I really do have 7 stands...lol Not all have lights .
only the two large stands have lights on each shelf. The others are window grown.
My light bill is actually cheaper here thatn it was in Texas.Different climate I guess???

I love King's Treasure's blooms and it is a new one for me...I'm sure ebay will provide enough for everyone who could possible want one. One of the good things about ebay..:)
You know there are no AV clubs out here in the desert...well close to me anyway. So I'm a club of ONE plus you guys!!

I do love my terrairums and our DG terrarium forum seems to have died a summer death perhaps it will pick up in the winter??
I like them because I can put plants in there and hold them almost indefinetly without much attention at all.

I'm in the process of setting up a couple of large 30 gallon ones but I gotta find a place to put them first..lol

I find everything roots 10 X faster in terrarium type containers & I will use almost anything if it will work..lol

Let me see if I can start a thread for the trailers.....

Hey MsC....

I found a King's Treasure plant....my friend in Calgary has one...woo hoo!!!! I am so very happy...won't get it though until the end of September....they are having an AV sale then so I will attend that....I hope I have some room left on my new 3-tier lightstand.

Look at all of those amazing blooms! Very beautiful! May I have your permission to use your opt ever beautiful for my desktop picture? : )
Nancy

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thanks Don! I use all kinds of jars plastic containers to keep as terrariums. Pnut butter jars are one of my favorites cause I eat a lot of it..lol

Joanne, I'm thrilled you found one! You will love it for sure.

I don't have much room left on any of my shelves...that's why the dining room table is always covered..lol

I can't garden out doors much here so I do it bigtime inside. I know I can't really grow all AV's but it sure is fun trying!!

MsC

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Hiya Nancy,
Sure you are more than welcomed to use the pic.

I have to tell you all that that poor plant is still in the soil I brought it home in!! It's on my transplant list but I just haven't gotten around to it. I bought it before oure move & can't believe it's blooming in that old soil...lol
I know MsC is hangin head in shame..:)

Northeast, NE(Zone 5a)

Well it sure doesn't look like it has suffered any being in the same pot and soil ! Maybe THATS what I am doing wrong! I am always repotting.Think I will let mine sit awhile! LOL!!
Nancy

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

MsC....looks like you are doing a pretty good job of growing to me.

I don't do the outside growing thing either.

My dining room table is full of stuff not violets...LOL!!!! We never eat at the table....in our favorite chairs is where we have eaten for years!

We are all guilty of procrastinating so not to worry!

Joanne

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm in the process of re-potting ALL of my violets to a lil heavier mix.
they dry out way to fast for me here. For some of the AV's it's just time to freshen up the soil.

I've experiemented with store bought Av's to see how long they can actually stand that soil they use to grow them in and so far... if the soil is fairly fresh they can go a really long time in it.However, one day you look at it & it's just dead! I think it's because of the PH change in the peat based soil & it just gets sour.

Here's a pic of a tray of noids I couldn't part with so I have just left them till last for repotting. They seem no worse fdor the wear but I wil get to them soon.:)

Oh they look quite content to me!

Joanne

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Oh and Joanne... TigerLily is funnel shaped.. I just took the pic head on...it is so much prettier than my pic so you gotta get one!

MsC

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi MsC....is it a compact grower? Oh that makes sense now.

Oh I have another question....how many trays can you get on each tier on the lightstands....I don't have any on my other one just loose plants. Someone told me only one but I don't think that is right. I would think 4 trays on each level.

Thanks,

Joanne

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

No I don't think of it as compact... it's got some really long leaves.
Now, I hear tell you can trim all the long leaves off to suit your growing area & have "stubbies streps " & blooming, too??

Just a though?

MsC

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi MsC...

Oh I have never heard of that....I am sure that could work.

Thanks,

Joanne

MsC,

I don't know what you do to your plants but they are so green and healthy looking. Whatever you're doing sure is working. So what is your beauty tip? Mine are sort of dull and drab looking for some reason. I would love for mine to look like yours.

Jesse

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Thank you Jesse.

I think one of the things that makes them so green, is that I wash their leaves about once amonth & I foliar spray them with a very weak soluction of high nitrogen low photash fertilizer about ???? guessing every 3 weeks or once a month .

I've been using Shultz AV soil mixed about 1/2 & 1/2 with perlite & large grade vermiculite. I don't fertilize much with anything else until I'm ready to set blooms...then I start using a bloom booster very weak.
Sounds pretty much like what everyone else does???
