Yesterdayafternoon when I came home to fuss over the Brugs I noted that all but one bud had fallen off Miss Emily, 6 buds had fallen off Day Dreams, one out of 2 had fallen off Orange King, and all had fallen off Super Nova.
This year they've had spider mites, they've been burnt to a crisp, and only occasionally rewarded me with that famous brug scent. Still lots of buds left on Painted Lady and Candida Double White so if the next expected heat wave doesn't get them I'll have some rewards next week.
I'll stick with it this year since I've a greenhouse to put most of them in for the winter (such as it is) but if they don't do better next year .......... (Picture Brug Assassination here) LOL

Bud drop
Mary, I have one brug that is losing buds everyday. It was so full a few days ago, but now only has a few left. I have no idea what is wrong but I'm becoming weary of worrying over these plants. They are so vulnerable to bugs, heat, too much sun or not enough. Good luck on your other budded brugs. When they bloom you will probably feel a bit kinder towards them.

You are not alone by any means! I have buds on almost everything.. then I go look a couple of days later.. Yep.. You got it.. they are on the ground. I thought that if they made it to about 2" or 3" they would hold.. but that's not true.. They fall off no matter what size they are. So when Creamsickle had like 20 buds varying in size from infant to 2" long I was so jazzed.. Now I can only find about 3. I'm sick over it too. I am NOT looking forward to the triple digits next week. That will probably mean more raking up buds..
Can I whine now?

This is a bad year - my buds are falling off also .
My nectarine tree didn't even hold enought friut for the birds - friut just kept falling ,
The newbrina [ sp ] plum is cover with plums .
The tomatoe plants aren't producing either .
Apples are about 1/2 size of last year .
Garlic has already bolted .
This definitely has been a bad year for Brugs.......
I totally agree with your posting Mary, I feel the exact same way. There are many other plants which produce wonderful blooms which don't run me ragged like these Brugs are doing.

Even the ones that don't actually drop don't look too healthy. This one is Day Dreams. She has two other buds to hope for besides this one. This has been like this for a couple days .... like she tried to come out, but just couldn't quite make the effort.
At least I know she's big enough to bloom now and keep my hopes up for the cooler fall weather. :-)
May I join your whine?? Most of my brugs are new this year but I have seen tiny (say microscopic) buds but they fall off........has to be the heat. The older white one doesn't usually bloom until late Sept so I guess it will be just waiting for it to show it's stuff!
I had good bloom earlier on before we had the heatwave. I haven't seen much action since. The temps have cooled down to normal and I am hoping the brugs get back to bud production. I am having the same troubles as Tony. My tomatoes look awful and are so small. One thing I have been thankful for is the Black Walnut trees aren't producing well this year and the walnuts that are on them are dropping earlier and are really small. We won't be hearing those big babies crashing on the metal roof in the middle of the night this yr.
I have found Pink Velvet to be an excellent brug for the heat. Held all it's flowers and still bloomed nicely with the heat and humidity. I also have older varities like frosty pink, isabella and golfito that seem to bloom really well as well. Sometimes old just can't be beat.
Mary I'm so sorry about Daydreams and the others. I am sure you have just been waiting to see them bloom.
