Since I now have a front porch that's bigger than my kitchen is, I decided to put all my plants outside for the summer. My cacti all rewarded me by getting confused and blooming off season. I just hope they don't get shocked when I bring them back inside and kill themselves trying to bloom again!

Nope, what you have looks exactly like the "Spring Cactus" that I purchased in a three inch pot in Spring of 2002. We moved last year about this time and that silly plant bloomed again late fall as well as Spring again! Most years, it only blooms in Spring. It's now in a much bigger pot and I move it inside when it freezes and outside (in shade only) when all danger of frost is gone.

I saw some in a store this season that were named "Summer Cactus" lol so I guess it just depends on what season they are cultivated to bloom in as to what their name is. : ) Anyway, mine and those were both the same exact color and type of plant as yours looks to be.

Thanks Bunny,

All of the plants I've bought or received were in bloom when I got them, and I don't think I ever picked up anything later than March. Apparently some of the poor things had been deceived as to what time of year it was. I knew they were breeding to extend the range of bloom time, but I didn't know they'd gotten that far yet. But that's okay. These and some orchids are about the only flowering houseplants that we've ever been able to get to repeat, so the more time I can cover, the more I like it! I think I'm going to have to do some repotting though. I've got several plants mixed together in each pot and they don't bloom together. Time to get out the calendar and start making flower notes. :-)

Ours usually bloom at Easter and Xmas but never in the summer Ernie
