Hello Hoya fans! I had the best time at lunch today! I met up with Ann (mskitty) at THE HOUSE OF NOODLES and we discussed hoya, people, hoya, where to buy hoya, where we have lived and more hoya talk! It was great fun to finaly meet Ann in person. We traded plants and cuttings and have plans for a future get-together. Yea!
I was happy to report to my sis-in-law that Ann IS the person I had seen in the pictures on DG! (she was afraid I had met Uncle Pervy on the internet :~) hahahaha!
Here is a photo of Ann and I at the HOUSE OF NOODLES with our trade goods..... Thanks for a great time Ann! -joanne

A meeting of Hoya minds...........
Oh my goodness that Kitty girl gets around.....I just love the smiles of new Hoya buddies..............
Looks like you gals had a blast. What fun. Did anyone say anthing about the plants or give you funny looks ? Ha Ha.
Marcy
We did have fun and both of the 'servers' asked about the plants. I got several strange looks as I walked up the sidewalk swinging a 6" basket of H. kerrii! I actualy wasn't swinging it, I was holding it as still as possible so as not to damage it just before I handed it over to it's new mama! May be that's where the looks came from: Not quite middle aged, bleach blond in thongs, holding as still as she can, a strange looking plant like it's made of glass. Perhaps I should have expected strange looks! LOL! -joanne
You wear thongs in public?...with nothing over them? Whoa...Oregon IS liberal. LOL
I wear them two at a time :~)
I refuse to call them flip-flops, I just get too much darn pleasure out of my children's "MUTHERRRRRRRRRRRRRR" :~) -joanne
Joanne, what is the hoya on the right? Looks like you guys had fun...
remember when Hoodies USED to be called kangaroo jackets...i was thinking that reading your flip-flop/thong post :)
Sandy
Sandy, the plant on the right is H. nummularoides and a huge cutting of ?. I forgot what Ann said it was! She is going to Dmail me with the name. That's what I got from her, she went home with the H. kerrii and a cutting of H. susssuela. I think we both went home happy. I know I did :~)
Heck, I still say "I'm going to the record store" but my kids tell me, "it's a music store now, they don't have 'records'". O-well, CD's sound better anyway ;~) -joanne
HA HA...here they are called 'slippers' which I had a terrible time with at first. Slippers????? Now...they are slippers!!! Isn't it fun how we can adjust so quickly!!!! (well, 5 years isn't bad......). Slippers is pronounced SLIPAHS. It's all anyone wears anytime (even in court!!) if you are local....unless you have ugly toenails....
Sorry, I meant to d-mail Joanne (got busy ......). It's an H. calycina (came from the plant I got from QP). I had such a wonderful time meeting Joanne! She is a fabulous lady! Gosh, I think we sat and chatted for over 2 hours. I think if I saw her greenhouse I would be very jealous.
Of course, I show up looking like a schlub and she's looking beautiful - she actually gets sleep, I think.
Naturally, we talked about all you lovely ladies and gents on the forum, and we have come to the conclusion that everyone on this forum is wonderful. There is such camaraderie here and it really is a fantastic place to hang out and talk to such wonderfully different people who all have at least one thing in common. What could be more delightful than hanging out on Dave's Garden and chatting with everyone? Meeting in person!!! So, I am very lucky. I have now personally met three people from this forum - I am one lucky chickita.
And ... Joanne is an expert shipper of things that need to be shipped, so she has very kindly offered to come help send all the cuttings from David Liddle!!
Oh, and I got new plants - yay for me!
Ann
Yes i now see the nummularioides hiding in there....its a blooming maniac...what fun having a hoya get together!
My sister spent 2 years in Japan and always refers to those shoes as "zorries". She even sent me a real Japanese pair when I was a teen and she lived there. After reading this thread, I got very curious about the name and went looking. Came across this blog on them:

I guess if NM calls them "thongs", that has to be the one to go with. Ha.
I found the thoughts on these names very interesting.
Alas...I can't even wear the nifty things as anything between my toes drives me nuts.
:-(
