Okay....Tea drinkers be happy! Here it is...we now have tea...thanks to....hmmm....who wanted tea?
I'm too old to remember everything I read now....those were the days!!!
Today is my first day with students ...gotta run!!!
THUR, Aug 17: Texas "Coffee" in the Morning...Tea until Nite
That was Patrob that suggest ice tea in the afternoon / evening. It does seem the group is more active then. A nice glass of tea would hit the spot when I get home from work and out of that heat!! My mornings are crammed full. Need to stop now and get ready for a DR appt this am.
Have a good Thursday everyone....tomorrow is Friday!!!
Looks like it's going to be an afternoon tea for everyone today. It's amazing how much more hectic things get when school starts back up. I've had company over this morning and have guests coming tomorrow for the weekend, so probably won't see y'all 'til Monday. Everyone have a good weekend and stay cool.
Yes, coffee a.m., tea p.m. - that's the routine. I use decaffeinated tea and thus can enjoy it all evening.
I have pop in the am and lemonade in the pm, but it all comes out to the same thing, I suppose. LOL
Today was our first real day of school, too. Katie is in the 3 year old special ed program at the Pre-K school. She is speech-delayed. We went to orientation yesterday, but today was the first day of real school. I think she had a good time (she can't tell me, obviously, but her teacher said she did great.) When we got home, she RAN to the front door, laughing, and when I opened the door, she RAN inside and then RAN back to me and then RAN down the hall.... LOL It was very cute. I hope she will be happy to go back tomorrow.
We're homeschooling the bigger bunny, and we started that today, too. That was fun. :-) We set up her box with her pencils and her markers, and her folder, etc... And she got to look at all of her books. We read a book and she did 3 pages in her math workbook (it starts out REALLY easy! I'm sure we'll slow down later. LOL) She's already reading and doing math at a first grade level, so we're skipping kindergarten. I need to send her vocabulary words to Grandma. Grandma will write a story using the words and e-mail it to Joy. :-)
I expected Katie to be ready for a nap when she got home, but Joy's the one who is acting whiny, the silly thing. Maybe we'll all get a nap in. :-)
Have a great time with your company, crowelli!
How was your first day, Connie? And how are your classes looking so far, Debbie?
And how did the dr appt go, Sheila?
~ Marylyn
Well the Dr. was a surgeon and he suggest I have back surgery. It doesn't sound as bad as it sounds. It will be a min. invasive procedure. I will go home the next day. Maybe be able to return to work in 3-4 weeks if recovery goes well. He said that if I don't have it soon there may be permanent nerve damage. I hurt to some degree most of the time and can't do anything much outside as it is. If I have this I will be able to do normal things in about three months. So I am willing to get the show on the road.
Well need to get supper....
Hey Marylyn -- II liked your post about your kiddos starting school. Is that really how you spell your name or is it a DG thing? I really like the spelling that way. My sweet MIL is named Marilyn--I think it is a beautiful name. What a treat to hear about Joy and Katie. I have a niece that will be getting tested soon to see about her speech delayment. Has Joy had any schooling before today? I love that Grandma is getting involved with the home schooling, that is great.
Debbie -- back to work, huh? I hope things are going well for you!
I can't stand hot tea, but love iced tea and lemonade.
Sheila - permanent nerve damage...sounds scary! I am sorry that you are in pain all the time. Thats gotta be rough. I recently hurt my back in an accident and have some pain but hope that it is something that doesn't linger on for months or even years.
I'm here with my glass of tea and enjoying the cool evening, inside with the AC going full blast, of course. I may venture out for a while just before dark.
It's so hot that the cats stick their heads outside, turn around, come back in, and flop down on the tile floor. The Great Pyr has shed all her undercoat, and we can see her spotted skin underneath. She's coming in to take her afternoon nap and to spend the night. The attention has stopped the destruction and digging that was driving me over the edge. I bathed her yesterday afternoon using lukewarm water coming out of the hose, and she seemed to enjoy the water. Our city water lines are deep, and the water usually stays quite cool in the summer.
Marylyn, I love the bunny tales! Don't you just love their excitement and enthusiasm for learning and living. I wish we could keep that as we grow older. I have moments like that, but not like I did way back when. I remember shopping for school supplies and finally graduating to the 64-count Crayolas. I never got the 128's. :>((
Sheila, I'm glad the doctor can do a procedure to relieve your pain. My dad's doctor told him once the definition of major and minor surgery: "Minor surgery is what I do to you. Major surgery is what anyone does to me." When will you have it done?
Connie and Debbie, how are your classes or is it too soon to tell?
Funny Pat! Not sure yet, I should get a call in a few days to set the date for the surgery. I am going to try to have surgery as early as possible so I will be able to make it to the RU Oct 8th. That is my priority of course! LOL!
No coffee mug from Connie this morning? hmmm. Did her kids eat her on the first day of school yesterday????
Michelle
Good morning! I'll bet Connie came home exhausted and then had to run off in the morning... I hope her first day went well.
ms_merae, Marylyn is really how I spell my name. I was named after my mom's best friend. We used to call her "Lady Marylyn" when we were growing up (so we knew which Marylyn we were talking to/about.. I suppose I was "Little Girl Marylyn" LOL) and we would call her husband "Lord Gary" (because obviously if she is a "Lady" he must be a "Lord", right??) which he thought was hysterically funny. LOL He worked in a manufacturing plant of some kind in Chicago. (I think he's retired now.) Mr. T worked there, too, before he became "Mr. T". Gary said he was a really nice guy. :-)
Joy went to Pre-K last year. She also was speech delayed, but she has caught up nicely now. How old is your neice? Both of my girls found speech therapy a lot of fun - and it works! :-)
Pat, shopping for school supplies was always one of our favorite things every year, and I still think it is fun. :-) Shall we bring you a pack of 128 crayons when we see you in College Station? LOL Charles and the bunnies are coming this time.
Sheila, we'll be praying for your surgery. I sure hope it goes well and helps quickly!
Happy Friday, everyone!! :-)
I subbed for Connie this morning and started the chat thread. The first week of school is always so hectic and exhausting, so if one has to choose whether to be at school on time or post, I suppose school wins. LOL Principals tend to think that way at least.
Here's a coffee mug for today http://davesgarden.com/forums/t/641008/
