Another special container

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi,

I picked up this special mug today at the local thrift store for 50 cents....just fell in love with it. I am putting a little NOID trailer in it. I would have taken the picture with it in it but then you wouldn't have seen his cute little face. It holds a three inch pot.

Oh Joanne,That is sooo cute. You sure do have good luck finding just the cutest pots! : ) Nancy

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Now if that doesn't take the cake!!! Lucky find, Joanne. Does it have any markings on the bottom?

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Thank you!

Well today was my lucky day because I got a few today but this one is the cutest! I am just thrilled with it.

I just checked on the bottom and it is handcrafted by a lady here in Alberta! I will give her a call and see what else she has available or if she has a website.

Glad that you asked otherwise I probably never would have looked.

Joanne

Joanne,

What luck and what a find. I still like froggy though.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Well, isn't that just too darn cute! I gotta start haunting the thrift shops for finds like that. TFS

Good...do that. The reason I asked is that your mug just didn't have the look of a massed produced item. Handcrafted as you say. Now to see it with a plant sometime ;0)

The Heart of Texas, TX(Zone 8b)

Ah too cute!
That should give your trailer lots of personality!

Noblesville, IN(Zone 5a)

Oh, that is so cute. I think that will be really darling with the trailer in it. It will look like hair.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I love it!
I have one somewhat similar.....mine's plain terracotta (non-painted) and his hands are at his sides...he has the same big feet though!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Nan,

I would love to see it when you can take a photo. I love stuff like that.

Joanne

Madison, WI(Zone 4b)

I could really use your fun containers for our fall show :) They are great!
Nancy

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Nancy,

Thank you very much....wish I could help you out!

Joanne

Ashdown, AR(Zone 8a)

Oh,that just toooo cute! I want one.Is it a coffee cup or a flower pot?

Lucky you for finding such a treasure for just fifty cents.

Please let us all know if the artist has a webpage.

Morning Bigred,

Thank you so much....I think it is a flower pot with a handle but not sure though. It is glazed inside and a three inch pot fits inside perfectly so I think it was meant for a pot.

I haven't phoned her yet but will and let you all know if she has a website.

Joanne

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I try to 'collect' these 'whimsical' pots ...but I tell you, they're hard to find!
I'd love to have one like yours, Joanne......I think we're all hoping the seller has more Ü !

I also have one in a 'tree motif' that my sister gifted me with....I'll have to get a photo of that one....I know you'll love it!

I have a photo of the other one in my webshots album....I'll try to link to it....was having trouble yesterday....if not, I'll try to find it on the seller's website.
I can't seem to find the photo on my hard drive, since I recently got a new camera, and the Kodak software transferred my old photos automatically....so it's not where I remember it once being!

Hmm....webshots seems to be down...so here's the website of the seller where I purchased mine.

http://secretgardenrareplants.com/catalog.cfm?category_id=6

It's the 'Large Waddle Pot'......in his photo, it doesn't show feet.....so they must not carry those anymore...but the face is the same.

He has others, too......click on the camera near the item for a photo.

I'm not sure, either, how he's doing....he was always a very reputable seller for me (I've purchased several plants from him, as well) but someone (Lorry, I think?) had recently ordered plastic pots from him, and never got them, so you might want to email him first if you're considering purchasing anything.

Also...Lorry, if you read this....did you ever get those pots you ordered from secretgardenrareplants?

I'll try to post that photo later, Joanne....mine has a 'Baby's Tears' plant in it...looks pretty cool,(even though it was taken with my old 'crappy' camera and my photography skills lack something....) and someone else must think so, too, because the photos' been downloaded 3 X, per webshots!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Perhaps not quite as whimsical as yours, Joanne, but does have 'purrsonality'. This black cat cache pot holds a 4" pot of a sweet and simple Streptocarpus.

Front view....excuse the glare.

Ahhh, that is an adorable pot, Snow. I love it! The Cat nut that I am The Strep 's pretty gorgeous itself.

Did see your baby Devon Rex and know you must be enjoying your new addition, Don. Cutie pie!

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oh, I like that one too, Snowrose....a black cat with green eyes....(I have two of those, too!)
(The cats, that is...not the pot!)

His green eyes really complement the foliage!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Black cats with green eyes.....I'm sure they bring you lots of good luck and enjoyment, Nan.

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Thanks Snowrose, I am enjoying him. He's a little imp and keeps me hopping, but lots of fun and cuddles too!

Do you have Devons too, Nan?

Don Ü

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

lol...Snowrose....my son says we're completely and totally jinxed for life....always black cats crossing our paths! Ü

Grand Forks, BC(Zone 5b)

Ohhh, now I understand. Duh!

Don Ü

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

Oops...sorry, Don....duh on me, too.
I'm afraid I don't even know what Devons are!
I'm guessing a breed of cat? ;)

If so....no..ours are just mixed breed ..... unknown!

You must have posted a photo somewhere....I'll have to check it out!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Nan - I can't find yours in there though. Thanks for sending the link.

Snowrose - Oh that is so very cute too! Is that a small Strep?

Sorry I been out of commission...bought me a new laptop and been playing with it and getting it set up.

Joanne

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Joanne -
Congrats on your new computer! Takes a while to get everything set up again.

Yes, this strep is a smaller growing one and always in bloom. It's a little no name that I continue to grow just because she's so sweet.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Snowrose, that is one area I haven't gone into because of the fact that they are usually too large.

Yours is really pretty though.

Joanne

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Joanne,

There is a miniature strep called 'Mighty Mouse' you might like......

(B. Schwarz) The first truly miniature Streptocarpus. Lightly striped pale blue flowers in abundance. Very small foliage. (AGGS Register)

Also, many hybrids out there referred to as 'compact' that tend to grow smaller in size compared to standard growers. Rob has hybridized several of those.

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning Snowrose,

Only problem with Rob's is he is in the US and I am in Canada and that creates a problem.

I will contact some of the sellers I know in Canada and see if they have any compact ones. That Mighty Mouse sounds really cute.

Thanks a bunch....appreciate it!

Joanne

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Rob will ship to Canada but is costly I'm sure.

SW, WI(Zone 4b)

I'll try to get a photo of my two 'funky pots' over the weekend, Joanne....if you don't mind your thread becoming *everyone's* special containers?! LOL!

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Morning Nan,

Of course I don't mind....I can hardly wait to see your "funky pots"

Joanne

Drumheller, Alberta, Canada(Zone 3a)

Sorry Joanne but I like Snow's kitty pot best. But then I am partial to cats! ;)
Love ya!
Dawna

Drumheller, AB(Zone 2a)

Hi Dawna,

I like it too but not as much as I like mine but then I am not partial to cats....LOL!

Lova ya too girl!

Joanne
