Species Velutina
Species Velutina
My, you certainly have a fine collection of Gesneriads, Joanne. I am in awe.
Don Ü
Bless you for growing species, Joanne. Lovely! Do you grow them any differently than modern hybrids?
Hi Snowrose,
Nope....I also have one other called Species grotei
S. grotei (S 17) 1921 (A. Engler) Single, light-medium blue/variable darker eye, 2-3 per peduncle. Flowers may hide under foliage. Pale-dark green, variable texture, round, serrated on most clones. Usually near-white back, occasionally red. Green or brown flexible petiole, variable internode length. Large trailer. Saintpaulia species
My friend won a ribbon for it in April of this year. Here is a photo of it.
Joanne
Very nice!

Thanks, Don. Great morning with all these super pics.
Oh, what fun! My only species AV so far is S. pendula... I need to take a new photo of it... no blooms yet, but it has really filled out and has such pretty foliage! Of course, it can't compare to Joanne's prizewinner above -- that's a fabulous plant!
Snowrose, that chimera is stunning.... you always post such amazing photos!
Critter,
No, no, that is not my prize winning plant it belongs to a friend in Calgary, AB who sold me one. I would love to see yours when you have time to grab a photo.
Sorry to mislead you.
Joanne
LOL.... guess I didn't read your post closely enough, as I was too busy gasping in admiration at the photo!
I'm headed up to water soon... will have to charge up the camera and take it with me... I need to find a bloom to post for RDT's birthday, in any case!
Joanne,
That rascal is really hairy! Very Nice!
I like that chimera blom too! Now that would be worth having.:)
MsC
Snowrose...that is so very pretty! TFS!
MsC...yes it is a hairy one but I sure like it...it reminds me of another plant but I can't think of what it is...
Joanne
