That appears to be a Joe Pye Weed. I have them here too, butterflies love them.

Oh yes, I see the leaves now that I look more closely - I was only noting the flowers and had sedum on the brain....just thinking about adding some to my garden. Thanks, Meredith!

Meredith79 is correct. It's Joe Pye Weed. The particular cultivar is 'Gateway' and they really do attract butterflies (especially swallowtails) and bees like crazy. The only problem I've had with Joe Pye Weed is that it likes to be kept evenly moist and will struggle in drought conditions.
