dragon wing

This has done so well. Would it do well in the house over winter?

Gorgeous! Such glossy healthy leaves. I sure would try to keep that one going. Should do well as a houseplant for the winter. Maybe take some cuttings.

I think you are right Snow. Cant hurt to start a few 'insurance' cuttings. Dragonwing is an easy one to start. I think pdoyle if you keep it in a bright light but not direct sunlight spot over winter it will do fine.
I keep mine in my greenhouse which I heat to 46-50º in the winter and it always starts to look ratty by the end of winter but always perks right back up come spring.

I know this is probably in the sticky but is a good article on begonia propagation.

Thanks, that was my next question snow.

Hard to beat 'Dragon Wings' for blooms. If there was a landscaping begonia for all zones, this would be a runaway winner.

They are so cheap and plentiful, you can treat them as annuals but they are easy to start - give them good light and they should do fine.

For sure.

This is the 2nd year for my DW. Bought it last year from Lowes at a discounted end of season sale. I over wintered it in a south facing window. By spring it looked pretty straggly. I trimmed it back, rooted some of the trimmings in Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil, had enough plants to give to the girls at work, and kept one as a back up for the Mother plant.

Gave the mother plant some time released fertilizer set her outside and this is how she looks today.

I started in the spring with 9 dragon wing plants, I took cuttings from the end of june on, and I now have around 300 starts!

I have a raised bed in my yard and I have ordered some thermostat controled heat cables to put in the soil. They are controled at 72-74 degrees. I'm getting some pvc pipe and plastic and making a large hoop to go over the bed. I'm planting all of the starts in there, as well as my purple fountain grass.

I'm not a very seasoned gardener, but trying. Do you long timers think this will work to keep them alive over the winter? What else should I do?

Here is a picture of a few of them. You can see all of my little geraniums I started from seed in June in front of them.

You can try but I have a feeling your cables will be on 24/7 and may still not be enough.
