Newbie questions pls

Brimfield, MA(Zone 5a)

I want to make an herb garden in zone 5. I currenlty have Mint growing and I have been succesful with Basil seeds two years in a row in planters. MY MAIN question is what herbs are perrennial in zone 5? I'd like to try some different mints, but I would love to know if oregano and others are perrenial.

You should be able to grow oregano, thyme, sage, etc... but a lot depends on the cultivar you choose, so look for information on cold hardiness. Good drainage is essential to winter survival, and a gravel mulch or placement of big rocks near herbs can act as a heat sink to moderate temperatures. Rosemary might be an iffy one for you, but one of the hardy varieties such as 'Arp' might overwinter in a sheltered spot (like on the south side of a foundation or other wall)... it's worth a try, but I'd take insurance cuttings to overwinter indoors, or just be willing to replace the plant if it doesn't come through.
