I can fence in an area with a 3x10 pond. Stream fed. How big an area for 6-8 ducks? Are K-C a good choice?

K.C.s are great egg layers. Have good dispositions tho they seldom get really tame as some breeds do. For 6 - 8 ducks I would want about a 50' square or more area. Are they going to just live in there or be able to get out most of the time? How about shelter? We have had 8 ducks, 2 goose hens, about 20 or so banties, a Peacock, and a guinea hen as well as 50 or so pigeons on about 1 acre of land with access to much more. Not too many bugs in the yarden here. I think we could easily handle more ducks and geese. We have a kiddy wading pool for our waterfowl and a nice chainlink fenced in area where the birdhouse is.

Okay, not anyone interested in this thread. That is a shame. Khakis' from what I have been reading are a very popular breed. I would like to have some. My reseach and help from fellow DGers says that I can upto 5 in city limits. I would like 2 to start out with. However, I just can not find anyone who will sell me just 2. hatcheries want to ship multiple. I understand why (mortality reasons) but I only want and have room for 2.

Anyone know of some close to San Antonio who would sell me two? Close enough I can drive by car round trip in a morning or afternoon?

You can advertise for free here. Maybe advertise that you would like a pair of ducks or that you'd be willing to split an order of ducks with one or more folks. My DH uses craig's list to sell/buy/trade car parts all the time, and I do see occational livestock and pet listings.

I would do some research and find some poultry shows in your area, breeders almost always have some pet quality poultry, you may be able to find a poultry auction....that way you can buy as many or few as you want

Find out who runs the poultry building for local county fair or state fair
They would know which way to point you
also, the "Poultry Press" I think is On Line and they have show listings

Thank you all I will take ya'lls suggestions and look into it.
