Good grief! These little guys never sit still. It's a miracle they ever get enough to eat. I chased this one around the yard until I was exhausted and sweaty like an old pig lol!
The Cassius Blues are .75 to 1" and smaller than a Hairstreak. The 2 spots on the wings have light orange around them that didn't show up in this pic. The dorsal has beautiful lavendar blue on it but fat chance I'll ever get a picture with the wings opened. They love my Plumbago!
Look Donna! This is my first id from the wonderful Butterfly book :) You are turning me into a butterfly chasing maniac! ... hee
Cassius Blue
oh and what a fabulous pic too. yes it is getting to darn hot to be chasing butterflies lol
Wonderful pic and congratulations on your ID!
I know what you mean about chasing them around...I went out today to our park to buterfly chase and made myself a mess--no pretty pic to show for it though!
Very nice pic, V. Very pretty Cassius Blue.
Oh, what are you doing running around your yard when you have your fifth grandbaby on the way??? :)
See, when we have butterflies in the back yard, I make my soon to be 9 year old do the running and picture taking. :)
that's a beauty! great pic, too!
Beautiful!! Beautiful!! Karen
Thanks guys :) I'm really amazed that this pic came out half as good as it did. I had to snap the picture so fast and couldn't take the time to focus. I'm determined to get an open winged shot to show why it earned it's name Blue. I'll keep trying :) It is beautiful topside.
ILily ... baby Samantha Lindsey was due by cesarean on the 11th but for Mom and baby medical reasons they postponed it until the 18th. This has been a rough pregnancy for my daughter Valerie. I'm glad it will be her last for her own health sake. 5 yunguns is plenty don't ya think? lol. If it was up to her she'd have 25.
When baby Samantha is 9 I'm gonna give her the camera and let her chase the butterflies. :)
