AOL and McAfee

I have dsl from local phone company but so used to AOL that I signed on for "piggy back". A while back AOL included MacAfee virus control. I have Avg and love it and have tried to get rid of MacAfee but I can't seem to uninstall it. It keeps popping up, running a scan when I don't want it. Any ideas or suggestions of how to get rid of it?
