I was so shocked yesterday when I was pulling some water plants out of the pond and saw a new plant growing and looked close and it was a brug I grew from seed last spring growing up from the old stump. I could not dig it up last winter and it had not Y'd come fall but I cut a couple cutting just to try but they did not make it. I have been watching that spot all spring and summer and never thought it would come back but here it is. It sure took it's sweet time coming up but better late than never.
It came back
How great. You get a second chance to see it bloom! Are you going to dig it up this year or hope it grows enough to take cuttings again? Aren't these just amazing with their will to survive?
I am not going to push my luck this year and I am going to dig it up and bring it into the GH. And I was totally surprised since I did not even add mulch or any protection for it last winter. Thanks Kell
Good for you! Kind of makes you think this one must be so special to live thru a zone 6b winter. I hope it is a to die for bloom.
Hello , I live in zone 7b abd I have read that you can leave your brug in the ground , cut back and just mulch over. Is that correct? I would rather do that then bring it in. Please let me know if it will live here in my zone 7b Virginia. In the plant files it states it will. But I do not want to take the chance. Any information.. i have been browzing site to site with no good answers about this.
Thanks
katrun, I live in 7b also. Mine have come back for the last 6-7 years. I do mulch heavy. Any of the special ones that I think might be hard to get a rooting of from someone I take a cutting of and root it just in case.
Brugs can be much stronger than we give them credit for. It's great that you will still have another chance to see this seedling bloom. I hope it will turn out to be a beauty for you vs.
