I have this mutant leaf on my h. meliflua ssp fraterna - is this weird? Karen
Is this weird?
yeah...neat huh?
I get those weird leaves every now & then on different hoyas. It is strange, but neat huh?

Girls; this isn't as neat as it looks. it's usually caused by something puncturing the vein at the point where it extends to the edge of the leaf. This happens when the leaf is very young and just forming. I've had them appear at the mid point or tip of a leaf like Karen's photo shows, I've also had them show up at the side edges of leaves. Sometimes the leaf will go ahead and get to normal size but always have that funny dip where it was punctured and sometimes (I guess depending on what caused the puncture), it will stunt the leaf and it will end up as a very small curled leaf that never gets any bigger. I've suspected fungas gnats of causing it, though they usually stay deeper in the soil and do some damage to the young roots, they're probably not above sampling a tender young leaf now and then.

I have had deformed leaves when a new leaf comes out where the plant hanger is tied to the pot...any pressure against the new leaf seems to send it ... OFF. I think it adds to the uniqueness of the pot....
