Wow..I hit every Lowes in Houston..found lottsa dollar plants on the "dead and dying rack.."
Salvia Gregii's, Texas Scullcap's, Hyssop's ..Looks like all they need is cutting back, planting and water..We'll see..
Good Time To Find Butterfly Plants
The skullcap's should do just fine. One tough plant and everywhere this year in the nursery trade--can't hardly kill 'em even if you wanted too. That one will do just fine, esp. under your loving care.

Yeah..I've never seen them before in my life (scullcaps) and suddenly every place has them in both pink and yellow..
I've been looking for them for 2 years and haven't found any.
They are every where--All over the hill country in commercial/business landscaping too.
But really nice plants. The hyssop--agastache should do pretty good too if it can survive the next 30 days humidity levels in Houston. One variety has done really well for me for the last 3 years but doesn't much care for all the rain we've had this summer--but its not dead either.

Debbie,
The Hyssop I got is Blue Fortune.. Any recommendations on care?
Lynn
Renatelynne,
Do you have either a Lowe's or Walmart..Much to my amazement I've seen them both places..
Plus the skullcaps are at every private-owned nursery I've been to this spring/summer...and I've been to alot.
The hyssop I grow is:

But my next door neighbor grows the blue fortune (I'm pretty sure its that cultivar) in totally neglected conditions (I love him dearly--bless his heart, best neighbor I ever had--but totally neglects his plants) in pure rock hard Houston gumbo without a bit of mulch. They reseed a bit for him, but the seeds never come up through my mulch. They are blooming their hearts out right now...putting mine to shame.

MMM..Thats pretty..
I also have "Coronado"..doing well in full sun with a little supplamental water..
Debbie, Are you saying Blue Fortune is a rampant reseeder? I bought a small one this spring and it's looking kind of washed out and ratty right now.I'm not sure if it is a keeper, but i figured on giving it a year or so more before deciding. but if it is going to spring up everywhere, i'm in a small yard and can't give it a lot of space...
Rampant is a bit too strong--but it does reseed a bit for him. Easy to identify and remove. Nothing to stress over, definitely.
I must just be missing them. will have to look next time I go out.
