Hibiscus Alii Ui

East Texas, United States(Zone 8a)

I got this one last summer at the hibiscus show in my county. Did not flower last year, it has flowered this year but blooms are not fully open. Any comments as to why that may be?

The outside of the flower is yellow and the inside is red and yellow. Gorgeous, but not blooming to its full potential

vossner, I haven't a clue. Just out of curiosity though, do you think that it gets enough sun? It is pretty. The colors are pretty together and look kind of marbled.

Certain hybrids do this when it is hot for an extended period. My hot Ticket flowers and Aztec Sun do thge same thing until it cools off some.

thank you both for the input. This one get some afternoon shade. I have had it potted because I haven't made up my mind about a permanent location. I have a couple of other hibiscuses in the same area, also potted, that are about to bloom. If the blooms are stunted like this, then it will confirm that their permanent location needs to be sunnier.

Kyle, we have gotten a bit of a break with the heat, not nearly as brutal as last year, plus we're getting 5 min. showers here and there. But this week we're supposed to be getting some highs in the 100s, we'll see if that messes up my blooms.

again, thanks

I am glad for the input too. Stolen Kiss has done this for the last 15 flower pods but they never even opened that much. I was ready to chunk it lol

was yours getting a little shade at some point in the day?

Vossner does it have alot of blooms? If it does have alot of blooms it is not not enough sun. Like Kyle said too much heat. Maybe try morning sun and afternoon shade.

Mine doesn't get blooms if it doesn't have enough sun. They just grow taller and no blooms.

I have a few buds, I wouldn't say plant is exploding with them.

oh vossner, I was just guessing too. Don't take my word for it. I think Kyle knows better than me. I just grow a couple and I think he actually hybridizes them and has a huge greenhouse with tons of hibiscus.
