I'm a happy Mom

Fountain, FL(Zone 8a)

I got my first brugs at the Florala swap 3 years ago. Later weeds was kind enough to give me cuttings...no names just "Yellow, white or pink". When a yellow opened I knew right away that a cutting would be planted on Pooh's grave. He was my 3-legged fawn Greyhound. I started calling the brug "Pooh" in his honor.

Well much to my surprise and joy Pooh set a pod. Understand now, I'm a first year newbie. LOL Although I *think* I picked the pod before it totally ripened I did manage to grow 2 seedlings. One bloomed for the first time last night. Can't wait to see how the color will change over the next few days. Pride gets the best of me as IMHO, it is the prettiest and best smelling brug ever. Nah I'm not proud...it's really not that special except to me. Think I'll start calling it "Winnie". Yes I'm being silly!!

Winnie and Pooh, I love your names. My Mother always said, every eye forms its own beauty. I do not think anyone can really be a judge of brugs since every eye sees things differently and tastes vary so much. To me, your white is just lovely.

It is great you jumped right in and were so successful. CONGRATULATIONS. I see lots of fun brugs in your future. LOL

Congrats Mom!!! What a beautiful flower - ooops I mean brug. I don't know anything about this plant but your pictures are great. I like the name Winnie.

Great story about Pooh and your Brugs. Congrats on them blooming.... Are you enjoying the evening fragrance?

Thanks ya'll...I was just really excited my first year to get a bud...and now into year 3 a bloom of "one of my own".

Kell...actually I don't know as how "Winnie" will stay white. None of the cuttings that I was given turned out to be white. "Pooh" to me is a melon color and I *think* the dad was yellow...looks a lot like Dr. Seuss. Still might it stay white? This morning it hadn't taken on any color. We shall see what today/tonight brings.

Kin..."Winnie" like to have knocked me over with the heavy scent of citrus. I also have a Milk N Honey blooming now. Yesterday at "beer thirty" while sitting in the screen room I was very much aware of them both. Life is good!

You should be excited. It is fun to have a one and only that you did yourself! Such a good time. I am thinking of hybridizing tropical hibiscus, they take up less room!

Yours might very well stay white if there is white in their background. I did notice though, that a lot of my white in subsequent bloomings or even years, would turn a pale orange but just at times. I have learned that you really need to see a brug for at least 2 full seasons to get a true idea of its looks. I have had them look so different even year to year.

Congratulations.

Kell is right, it takes a couple of years. I had a lite Peachy Salmon colored one last year this year it is a dark salmon-y pink! Go figure.
It is always exciting to see blooms & any blooms that are your own, & to have a baby that you started from your own seed, that's just too fun! Way to go!
I'm not there yet. Maybe in a few years when I get some better stock to play with. Bj

OOOPS.. think I was not clear....I had NOTHING to do with this pod...GOD and nature took care of it for me. I was just really excited that it happened for me my first year of having a brug. Winnie is a plus/blessing looking sad with the heat...but my heart still sings. :-))))
