Thanks Raingazer! I used this variety in a cross I made earlier and have seed that I can't wait to see what may result.

Very cool, Snowrose! What a beautiful plant!!

Does the variegation come true when you grow them from seed? Have you sown the seeds yet? Keep us posted on how they do.
I have a Kitten Face that bloomed and I'm hoping to get seeds from it. I don't know if they can produce seed from pollen from the same bloom, but I'm waiting to see. :o)

that ia so beautiful

Raingazer....In violets, if you want variegated plants, the mother plant (seed plant) must be variegated. If you would cross a plain green variety with pollen from a variegated one, none of the offspring would be variegated.

In Streps however, even though I used this plant as the mother, there is no gaurantee the offspring will be all variegated.

Yes, you can use the pollen from a blossom to pollinate the same blossom. This happens often naturally. If I would have done that, I would refer to it as 'Iced Canadian Sunset X Self'.

I will follow up with the progress. Here's a photo of the dried seed pod and some of the seed that has spilled out.

Thanks Planti!

BigRed would be a great nickname for this plant! Thanks!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

Gorgeous!!! and I'm so excited about your crossed seeds!

Frederick, MD(Zone 6b)

If the seeds are viable, Critter, and I end up with some plants, will be interesting to see. Maybe if I have time, I will sow them tomorrow.

Thank you, Starfly!

Oh now that is just breathtaking, Snowrose!
I'm just beginning to get a few streps and so far I haven't sent them to my usual 'watery grave', so I'm hoping to be able to grow these too. I just love their long leaves plus they flower so different from Av's it's a nice change of pace.

I'd love it if you have any growing tips for us.

Thanks for sucha great pic!

I agree, MsC about streps being a wonderful companion plant to violets. Wish I knew how folks put in the hyperlink thing but check out streptocarpus-info.com

This is a great website where you can see tons of different streps plus click on cultivation and read what it has to say. All very interesting and informative.

Also, if you are interested in Episcia, there is a link to the episcia section where again there are many pics of Episcia, etc.

Iced Canadian Sunset is probably the showiest one I grow, but heres a photo of 'Jules' with unusual fantasy blossoms. No two alike as you will see. Nice easy large grower.

Snowrose,
The way I put in a hyperlink is to go to the address bar on the page I want to link to, highlight the address, right click, select copy, and then come her to my post, click where I want the link to be, right click and select paste. Let's see if it works with the site you mentioned above:
http://www.streptocarpus-info.com/
Try it out!
And thank you for all the pictures! They are simply fabulous!

Very helpful, RainGazer! Thank you. I am so glad to know how that is done. So much better!

Snow,

Yours are very pretty. I do like the one with the variegated foliage I don't have any but really like the one they show Lemon Curd.

Makshi...."Lemon Curd' is luscious and the first strep with yellow. Now you will have to try a strep one of these days. They can tolerate cooler temps than violets. In my warm plant room downstairs, I grow them on the bottom shelves.

Oh-oh, red on white. Oh.
