A Good Night

Vancleave, MS(Zone 8b)

Got a beautiful Imperial Moth tonight. A first for me yea!!!!!!!!!!!! Funny was talking with a friend earlier and was complaining about not having many moths and that I sometimes turn on the lights to the Floridaroom at night after DH goes to bed since it shines out in the yard. I was just sitting here at the puter with desk light on by the window. It came up and kept thumping the window trying to get in. I open the doors in Floridaroom, turned on the light, and let it in lol

Oh my gosh, I can just imagine the surprise and excitement that you felt. It is so pretty and big too and a cute little fact. I am so glad that you turned on the lights for a little while last night.

Donna, this is off topic, but I just HAD to tell somebody. I saw the most beautiful butterfly yesterday. The outside of her wings were a rather plain brown color, but when she spread her wings they were the brightest, most glorious orange. This beauty was several feet away, but I couldn't see any stripes, etc. like swallowtails, where is what is abundant in my yard. This is the first time I have seen one like that, ever!

It was really something.

I found one of those (that moth) one time. Big and interesting looking. Somebody told me later that if it's a female, you can put it in a paper bag or something for a while and it might lay eggs in there. But then, I don't remember how he said to tell if it's a female. I had already released the moth at the time, so couldn't do it.

the color. Mine is a female. Males are more brown. Yes you are correct about it laying eggs in a paper bag. It was in the info I read about it.

Donna - that moth looked as big as the one that buzzed my husband last night. I see now that "moth-watching" could be as interesting as butterfly watching! Thanks for posting that pic.!
